this is my plan of action, feel free to correct me as I'm new to all this. For reference I'll be in Thailand from July 19 thru August 21 on a DTV.

Upon my return I will initiate my NoN O immigrant Visa. By reading all the stuff on here I will need 1. A photo 2. My passport 3. Bank statements showing consistent Direct Deposits shoeing I'm getting enough monthly.

When I'm there.

1. Sign a one year lease condo or

house.

2. Get a Thai phone with sim card attached to my passport.

3. Get a TM30 from landlord then go to local immigration office and get a resident certificate.

4. Open Thailand bank account and drop 800,000 bht from US.

5. Get some health insurance.

6. Apply for Non Immigrant 1 year Visa.

If I missed anything feel free to chime in. I like planning things out well in advance.

Since I'm going to be there in 2 months. Can I do anything to help out the process. And before anyone asks. I can't do the NoN o now because of personal reasons. Thanks everyone.
Summary so far
The user outlines a plan to transition from a DTV visa to a Non-O immigrant visa upon their return to Thailand. They list steps for obtaining documents, securing housing, and initiating the visa application process. However, several comments point out critical issues with this plan, including the inability to apply for a new visa while the DTV is still valid and potential challenges in opening a bank account on a DTV visa. Some commenters suggest reconsidering the need for a Non-O visa when the DTV may offer more flexibility.

Why do you need Non-O if you already have DTV? Between the two DTV is better because you don't need to park 800k in the bank to do nothing all year, and you don't need to renew it every year. Or did you mean a tourist visa and not DTV?

Nitzan Kon maybe looking at the longer term, DTV likely to get heavily modified or scrapped at some point, a lot of the government are not happy with how it was implemented and how it is being abused

Thai immigration can ask for any documents, even if not listed ,they issue visa at their discretion. nothing is a given.

Why the eff would you want a non o when you have a dtv? If it is over opening a bank account, just wait for Wise to start their qr code stuff.

A few issues with your plan, it is difficult if not impossible to open a Thai bank account on a DTV visa, The Non-O visa is not a 1 year visa, it is a 90 day visa and you file for a 1 year extension of stay when it is due to expire, also you can not apply for a different visa while holding another that is still valid. You need to cancell the DTV visa before you can get a Non-O visa.

Marco Antonio Cuevas You don't actually get a 1 year retirement visa with the Non-O visa you get 12 month extensions. The actual 1 year retirement visa is the Non-OA visa and that one requires Thai medical insurance plus a few other things. You're better off just getting a Non-O visa keep it and extend it each year. Once you do your first 12 month extension after the initial 90 days it is basically the same as the Non-OA visa good for yearly extensions without the extra requirements and expenses.

Marco Antonio Cuevas on the type O visa extension no you do not need insurance, although it is strongly advised that you have health insurance

Marco Antonio Cuevas If you apply for the 90 day Non-O based on retirement, there is NO insurance needed. It is valid to use for 90 days. You enter and get stamped in for 90 days, open bank account asap, and deposit money, season that for 2 months and apply for a 12 month extension of stay. That's basically it.

You can't apply for another visa while your DTV visa is valid. You either need to wait until the DTV expires or try and cancel it via the consulate that issued it.
