UPDATE ON OUR RETIREMENT VISA

We decided to try one more time with the only documentation we had. We went in with our lease agreement from America showing income and our American bank statements with not much hope that it would work. And we walked out with our one year extension! It’s a good day!!!!!!!!

Okay seeing as effective the 1st of January 2019 the US consulate is no longer issuing the affidavit of income from abroad letters I'd say this topic has run its course. :O

Hi Nicole. ...your situation is the same as mine rental income and savings...albeit I'm not ready yet to be in a position to start a residency process...having read what I can about this on official websites I'm sure that you have to have verified accounts going back at least 2 years before application (might be 3)...so presumably your accountant and the IRS can provide what you need? Obviously bank statements would back up those accounts and I assume that you also have tenancy agreements which would also help prove your case...when my turn comes around this is what I intend to provide...hope this helps 🙂

There was a US guy on here 3 or 4 weeks black, Chiang Mai and he also got refused.

Then 2 weeks back another US guy went to Chiang Wattana with the US embassy affidavit and I think he was accepted but told that it was the last time the letter could be used.

Combination method money in bank and monthly income can only be used for appliation of Extension of Stay based on over 50 years of age, NOT for based on marrried to a Thai National.

I didn’t think the combination method could be used for retirement extensions? Only marriage extensions.

I missed those posts. I was actually looking to see if anyone had the same issue yet.

What do you mean by pension affidavit? I have a letter from the University of California stating I have a pension and the amount. I also could print bank statements showing the deposits. That plus an income affidavit won’t work? (Bangkok)

when we got our original retirement Visa in the US we were dependjng on the rental income from our home. We took the lease in. And the LA Thai consulate approved it.

And Chiang Mai immigration didn’t look at supporting documents until this September. My understanding is this is brand new.

Our issue is we don’t have enough income on its own or enough in the bank in its own. So we would need a combo. Also wondering if anyone has used a lease agreement for proof of income

I just got my one year extension using my Thai bank account but I was under the impression I could have used my income as well. I just didn’t want to pay the $50 US consulate notary fee.

@Nicole *******
That would be the same as the income affidavit in Bangkok. The consulate doesn’t even look at supporting documents. They just take your word for it and stamp the affidavit. If you have the affidavit plus supporting documents, like I described above, would that work for the Thai authorities?

The pension affidavit is from the American Embassy here in Chiang Mai. You go in and vow that you have so much in income and they stamp an affidavit for you. Up until September this year, that was sufficient for proof of income although I know that wasn’t technically the law. It worked fine for my friend in July.
