Have anybody extended the DTV visa? How was the experience?

Do they ask lot of documents and pick on you for no reason?
Answer summary
Extending the DTV visa in Thailand can be quite challenging, with many users reporting that immigration officials often prefer visa holders to leave the country and re-enter instead of granting extensions. While it is possible to extend the visa, especially in places like Bangkok or Udon Thani, applicants may encounter difficulties and need to provide specific original documents. Users have shared mixed experiences with extensions, suggesting that it may be easier to do a 'border bounce' rather than pursuing an in-country extension. Additionally, discussions about tax residency indicate that total days spent in Thailand, rather than consecutive days, determine tax obligations.

To extend inside Thailand you need all your original documents updated.

And what about the tax residence?

After 180 days you technically are but the unspoken word is file your returns from the place where you earnt your money.

You're probably paying taxes anyway with consumption taxes, road taxes if you own any vehicles, or land taxes if you own property

Tax residence has nothing to do with visa, as soon as you reach 180 days total in a calendar year you are tax resident.

Nonsense, it's 180 consecutive days to become tax resistance. So need to pay on DVT unless you extend.

I second that. Dangerous misinformation about the 'consecutive' part.

Anonieme deelnemer 752 You are certainly 100 percent wrong, no need to be consecutive.

Where did you get that misinformation?

I always wonder if people make their own wrong rules and then publish them or jus have the wrong source of information

Yes, I know, but if you extend your visa after 180 days and come back, you theoretically fall into tax residences. I think so

If you border run you’d fall into tax residence too. The metric isn’t about continuous time in country but total time in a calendar year.

You can extend 1 time every 180 days .. and then bounce .. get new 180 and extend again..

Yes. There are reports of successful extensions in Bangkok, Udon Thani, etc.

Just use the search bar of the group.

These are the requirements for extending the DTV at least in Bangkok.

The requirements aren’t exactly difficult but if someone is fraudulently using the visa by not attending their “soft power” activity then it’s probably best to re-enter.

Immigration really don’t want you to extend the visa/entry stamp. They want you to bounce.

It can be done. It has been done but they’ll probably make it really difficult to do so. Way easier to bounce.
