Transfer stamps to new passport

For those that are interested in the process, hope this is useful.

I received my new Australian passport at the embassy and current passport was marked as cancelled. I held Non-O Visa (Thai wife), now on first yearly extension of stay, and have multi re-entry permit. Extension & re-entry both from Chaengwattana.

Arrived CW 2pm Wednesday 28 May, was given ticket for counter L with 35 people in front of me. My ticket was called at 3:50pm.

Gave counter L my new & old passports, completed transfer form, with copies of requested documents on the form ([members only]).

Took 15 minutes to process, and then I was sent to the re-entry section. It was after 3:30 so I couldn't get a ticket number for re-entry counter, so just asked the staff in the re-entry section (hoping they wouldn't tell me to come back next day) and they then copied re-entry stamp into new passport also.

Whole process completed by 4:20pm.

I think it was helpful that the re-entry permit had been issued by CW, as the re-entry staff first saw an expired re-entry permit issued by Suvarnabhumi Airport, and were discussing between themselves about which office had issued the reentry permit.

I've attached copies of what the stamps in new passport look like, as they are like a duplicate of the original stamp, with a 'this is a correct copy' stamp and signed by immigration officer.

I transferred my O visa to a new passport at CW yesterday and was surprised they asked for my updated bank book which I didn’t have, it’s not listed on the info sheet check list they give you, so was told to go downstairs to get a statement from Kbank. In retrospect I can understand why they’d want to make sure I hadn’t dipped below the limit before continuing my visa in the new passport. All good now.

Good it went so quickly for you. Took a good couple of hours for me to get stamps moved here in Sa Kaeo on a UK passport recently. Seemingly there's an issue with new UK passports being forged so they check the passport pretty rigorously which is what took the time. They also want copies of both old and new passports when I go for my next extension.

Thank you for the report.

Q. I think it was helpful that the re-entry permit had been issued by CW,

-> Yes, CW wouldn't move a re-entry permit if it's issued at the airport. In that case, you need to go to the airport that issued a re-entry permit to move.

That's good to know. Is that something that can be done if you are not flying? Normally at the airport you need a boarding pass in order to get through to the immigration / re-entry desk. Is there a way to see immigration and have a stamp moved when you are not flying?

, Yes, you just need to get an immigration officer and let her know you need to move stamp. You don't need to fly out only for that.

People can get an officer through the airport information counter, tourist police at the airport, or staff around the departure/arrival gate.
