How can I successfully apply for an STV extension in Thailand?

I got my STV extension request approved today (Friday 8 October) and wanted to share my experience with you all.

I was worried for the past few months since the previous announcement said STVs were ending September 30, 2021, and I hoped to stay the full 9 months. The latest announcement said they were extending STV until September 2022, which is great news but I wasn't sure it would apply to me since I arrived on July 28.

Anyway, I went this morning to Chang Wattana, arrived at 8:45 am and was done before 10 am!

I had all my documents ready and printed as per the list I found here ([members only]).

Note: you must bring the receipt of payment for your ASQ hotel stay as well. The ASQ completion certificate will not suffice. There's a print and copy center downstairs if you need to do any last minute printing or even take your passport photo.

There were barely any people there in the morning, and I probably could have finished the whole process in 30-45 mins max, if I didn't have to print additional documents :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their successful experience applying for an STV extension in Thailand. Comments from others express gratitude for the information, inquire about accommodation proof for the extension, and caution against taking shortcuts with immigration rules.

I'm shutting this down. The letter of the law for getting a 90 day STV is clear from Bangkok Immigration. Don't be surprised if you get burned if you try to skirt the rules.

Here's the official requirements from Bangkok Immigration.

Was that your 2nd extension?

my first!

I entered July 28 and my visa is valid until Oct 25.

Today I got my first extension, valid until Jan 23, so 90 days counting from the Oct 25 end date.

What exactly did you show for upcoming 90 days accommodation? Condo, hotel, friends house? This is quite an onerous request to be locked into for 90 days while "touristing."

I’m sure you could also book on Expedia, Airbnb or other sites where they give free cancellation. So make booking for the required dates, print the confirmation, then cancel.

as well the accommodation needs a valid tax ID if a business or pretending to be a business.

Right. On both Expedia and Airbnb they have listings where you pre-pay in full to book but can cancel within 24 hours (or by a certain date) and that has worked for me before for other visa applications.

I’m not certain for the STV of course, because I personally brought a lease for a condo. But could be worth a shot!

I *HIGHLY* doubt that would work. They need pre-paid hotel room, OR a lease agreement, OR proof you own your residence.

I have a lease until end of December so I showed the lease agreement. They extended me the full 90 days until end of January even though my lease only goes till end of December so maybe just having a hotel booking will suffice, even if it’s not for the full duration.

Thank you for sharing

Thanx for the update. It's good to know that the immigration office knows the STV program is continued for another year and that they are not giving people any grief when applying for their 90 day extensions on them.
