Why is my Multiple Entry Tourist visa being questioned at Thai immigration?

Hello,

I need your advice....This year is my second year I come to Thailand on a Multiple Entry Tourist (MTV) visa. Last year when I arrived at the BKK airport I wasn't asked any questions in terms of why I'm visiting and what I'll do in Thailand for the duration of my visa. However, this is my second year to come to Bangkok and they asked me a lot of questions. Basically, WHY I come so often and WHAT I do here.

Has anyone recently experienced over questioning by the airport immigration officers and if they did what do you suggest I do next time because I have to re-enter in a few weeks and I don't want to be denied my entry even though my MTV will still be valid?

Thailand is really one the easiest countries to visit...

What were your answers?

Well you can own a business with your Thai wife. Follow the rules.
Ian *********
They just want to make sure you aren’t working that’s all.
Robert *****
Probably because you look like Bulgarian Mafia. 5555. Just kidding almost. You might bring a girl with you next time. You don’t fit the ‘Tourist look’

By Thai standards. They use facial recognition and they flagged you in-line before you got to the immigration person. Good luck.

Ben goes through the issued order section by section.

thank you for sharing. I'll check it out.

Perhaps read this and understand the order that has been issued to the Immigration commissioner.

A lot of people are in for a shock, particularly those continually entering on tourist visas

this is in my opinion what USA should be doing. I have no problem with it. Keep it up. Secure the border only let good people in

They do that sometimes, don't be alarmed. They let you in.

I get pulled in everytime, 2 years for me also .

I just prove to them I have a company in Australia that allows me the freedom of travel.

But it is getting more difficult each time 🙁

Tell them you are in love with Thailand and are in a relationship but you have other businesses that require you to travel. Also your children or grand children like you to come home for family events. Basically truth. Your country has religious events right. Buddhist understand this. Family and spiritual is important.
Michael ********
They just want to make sure you are not working here illegally. Almost all countries do the same in fact Thailands one of the most lenient. Try spending this amount of times as a tourist in new zealand or australia
Janne ***********
that is normal in most of the world.

People need to understand that most countrys in general only regard stays less than 3 month as touristic, and if wanting to stay longer, you must use some other kind of visa in accordance with the purpose of stay.

That’s where things get complicated, because there are harder criterias to meet to get those kind of visa’s.

The change from touristic status is also reflected in many other things that change after 3 months

You can no longer use a International Drivers License,

Your adress may be easier to get confirmed as residental ( which you need for drivers license)

Your travelinsurance may not cover any longer,

It will get easier to get a bankaccount, on the right type of visa

etc.

@Henrik ****
people also need to understand there is NO limit to the number of tourist entries one can get. No need to get a long term visa unless you wish to

I have come to Thailand for 9yrs with a 30 day entry (USA) and extended 30 days. This year I got a 60 day tourist and will get a 30 day extension. My IO at BKK after flipping thru my pages of thai stamps said in perfect english, "welcome back Sean".
Duncanc **********
@Sean *******
Oh! That seems much more plausible 😝🫣 Thanks

@Duncanc *********
no of course not. I came every year for the last 9yrs on 30 day entry and extended 30 days. This year a 60 day and extension.
Duncanc **********
@Sean *******
you stayed for 9 years on a 30 day visa waiver? 😳

Time for a new passport but next time will be retirement visa.

Tell them you are spending a lot of money and that you are helping to prop the local economy up out of the goodness of your own heart ❤️

That is not a right presumption, since short time (weeks) tourists, will use more / day, than long time “tourists” (month)

I'm sure they'd just love that sort of arrogance and entitlement. Probably give him a lifetime multiple entry visa on the spot.

Yeah. One tourist is really going to prop up the economy! 🤣🤣

you've already got asked which means u are running out of luck. How long have you been out of thailand in the past 2 years? Have you done visa runs every 2 months or you've also extended your stay up to 9?
Michael **********
@Stoyan *********
it's possible they deny you enter in the kingdom. You've already got warned once and that was a red flag. I got questioned at the airport last year after a bit more than 4 months (and I was back home for a month). They asked me to show the ticket I was leaving the country and they wrote some notes on their pc. I got back after 6 months with a tourist visa and had no issues tho

I've been out of Thailand for more than a year for the last 2 years. I did some visa runs and some extensions. Never fully maximized the METV
Phil ******
John **********
They are not keen on people spending a long time here on tourist visas any more. You can get 9 months out of an METV so if you maximised the last one and there's not a good gap I'm not surprised they questioned you

If you have a valid visa then it’s generally the case that they won’t deny you entry. They could possibly grill you on why, and even suggest that you’ve “overstayed” your entry allowance but they will usually let you in with a verbal warning. That usually means nothing either. However it’s at the discretion of the immigration officer to actually let you in so we can’t say for certain what the future may hold for you.
