Recently tried to send money to family through wise. Never had problems before. But last transaction refused. Wise say it's because Thailand has changed banking rules. Your name from sending account has to match bank account name in account Thailand. How can you resolve this is the question?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Users have reported recent issues when sending money to Thailand via Wise, primarily due to new banking rules requiring that the name on the sending account must match the recipient's name exactly as per their bank account records in Thailand. To resolve these issues, it's suggested to update your name on Wise to include any middle names or corrections needed, as many have successfully done so by providing necessary identification. Alternatives like changing the recipient bank details or using other remittance services such as Remitly are also discussed.

Send from bank to bank.

Its usually just adding your middle name

Change the name in Wise recipient account info to match the local Thai bank name info.

This is really weird. Do you know how many people have Accounts abroad without their middle name and/or joint spiuse accounts where there are even two names etc.? I hope this issue is only with Wise, which I never use. If I transfer money to my KBank only with swift from bank to bank

So how does anyone send money to someone else? My problem is the opposite in that Wise has my middle name whereas my bank and passport do not.
John **********
@Roger *******
simple. You ensure the name of the recipient in Wise matches the name the recipient uses in their bank account
Roger ********
Does not make sense. How, then, can I send to my wife?

@Roger *******
i use Revolut these days and it works perfectly fine and faster and cheaper

l like Wise. Never let me down yet.
Sue **********
@Roger *******
how can that be? Normally you only have the middle name in your passport and nowhere else šŸ˜‰

no idea. Checked the previous three, and it doesn't appear in any of them.

I went to Kasikorn and opened a bank account 2 weeks ago. Problem solved. I have been sending money to myself and others, also using scan and and pay no problems

Are you sure you have that correct? They’ve been rejecting transactions when the name on the recipient’s account in Wise does not exactly match the name the bank has on file for the recipient. That’s the issue everyone else responding has also mentioned.

I haven’t seen anyone say a transfer was rejected because the sending account name didn’t match the recipient’s name—that makes no sense, since it would mean you could only send money to yourself.

I find this bizarre and hard to believe even though that's what Wise are telling you. My Oz friend often sends me money (as recent as 3 days ago) from his Wise / Oz bank account to my Thai Krungsri account when he is here in BKK because he has no Thai bank account and no access to funds.

If the receiving Thai bank account is from Bangkok bank then yes this issue absolutely does make sense because they are a bunch of azzhats. I dont think Wise are telling you everything.

Had same problem last month. Wise 'said': There’s a problem with your transfer IDxxxx.

The name we had for your recipient THB account appears to be wrong. Because of that, your money was sent back to us.

Try to delete y'r account from the bangkok bank within Wise and add it with exact name('s) from y'r bankbook or the name('s) without last name. After 3 different 'name attempts', it worked again. This happened also after more than 7 years with no problems. Think because they are 'managing' their software/interfaces šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I was in the same position with Wise in that I hadn’t used my middle name, whereas Thai banks use the details from your passport, regarding names and my middle name was included on my passport. I contacted Wise through the website and not the app. There were some FAQs and I followed them to get in touch with Wise in order to update my name. A photo of the information pages of my passport and a selfie photo, uploaded online and the problem was solved within 15 minutes. On checking my app, my name had been updated to my full name.

Use Remitly

@Pat *****
Why would you use Remitly? Last time I checked I got a far better exchange rate from Wise in comparison to Remitly, a big deal if doing a large transfer(s).
Sea *****
@Donald *********
You might want to check that again. I did that a few days ago and to my surprise remitly was actually much cheaper than wise overall.
Donald **********
@Sea ****
Only time I’ve seen them cheaper was a promotional offer, but I can always check.

@Donald *********
Ok I'll check again too

i prefer Revolut. Better and cheaper than Wise.

@Dany *******
revolut expensive at weekends

@Jim ********
just use it on the 5 other days of the week? šŸ˜…
Donald **********
@Dany *******
- I've got Revolut so will need to give it a try.

because of transfer time .. wise took 2 hours .. remitly took 5 minutes…

@Pat *****
Depends on the urgency then! If you need it immediately use Remitly at a premium cost. Plan ahead and use Wise for the best deal. Can’t myself see why you wouldn’t plan ahead?
