Hi I'm going to get my SETV visa tomorrow in Cambodia. Can anyone recommend how best to show I am leaving the country at end of the visa term. I understand that some flight companies allow you to book and cancel for free. I am hoping to get a 2nd SETV via land in malaysia so would rather not actually take an expensive flight. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks advice on proving onward travel for an SETV visa application in Cambodia, aiming not to buy an expensive flight. Responses suggest using bus tickets or online services that provide temporary booking confirmations. Some emphasize the importance of showing valid proof of onward travel, with hints that consulate requirements may vary. Recommendations include booking a low-cost flight on Air Asia that can potentially be canceled or refunded.

Just book an Air Asia flight to anywhere to fly on about day 57 of the 60.

Probably cost no more than 800THB

I'm not sure if AA allow cancellation but they're "throwaway prices" if you're looking for a way to stay in Thailand long term.

A "wasted" ticket at 800THB is a fraction of the cost of living.

And then? Cancel your ticket on day 58 when you want to extend?

100% the best way. I used to do it each time.

There are several companies that will sell you a "Ticket" like Flyonward but I heard several people having problems getting their confirmation within the last two weeks and they do not reply to any mails. The Facebook Site is down too. I suppose, people who wanted to scam immigration law, got scammed themselves ;-)

Now contrary to common believe those websites do not sell any tickets, they just sell you a PNR

A PNR is a database record on the airline's computer that holds the information about you and your flights. But crucially it is a separate system to ticketing, which are financial documents.

Many of those on-line companies are generating a Personal Name Register not a ticketed booking, which may fall foul of a very strict interpretation of the rules as the sole purpose is, to avoid compliance to immigration law.

There are other websites where you can print your own tickets, fake tickets. Should you get caught with one of them, you might even be prosecuted for trying to enter a country with a fake document.

The only legal way is to have a valid onward ticket, PNR is not.

You could always buy a 1 year open return, then keep changing dates and finally, use it or refund it. Why scam the system and in the end pay more, if you can use the system and get something for it ;-)

IATA regulations are amazing too ;-)

And would I get a ticket for 60 or 90 days after entry or doesn't it matter?

You have to show you have that amount minimum in your bank.

$1000 ???? That is expensive.

Hi, thanks again Tod for your answer to another of my posts. The website says evidence of flights in and out of Thailand within 60 days, $1000 buf no mention of accommodation (I'll probably book some on trip advisor anyway).

It is totally consulate dependent. Some want proof of onward travel within 60 days because that's how long you're gonna get stamped into thailand for. Some will let it be 90 days (because they know you can get a 30 day extension at the immigration office once you're here for 1900baht).

What does the consulate you're applying for the tourist visa at say on their website?

I found this info on a site selling plane tickets. We are getting out visas this week but not entering Thailand until the start of September.

It is recommended even by the embassies themselves that you only book your actual flight AFTER your visa is approved

you should be ok..without onward proof of a flight out..they may ask you to show
*****
bhat to prove you can look after yourself for the 30 day visa..

I think they're asking more about what the thai consulate wants as far as proof of onward travel, and not the thai immigration officers when she stamps into the country.
Tod *********
When you're getting a tourist visa at a thai consulate for proof of onward travel within 60 days some people use a bus ticket and it's accepted.

There are a few internet sites that rent you a ticket for onward travel and to my knowledge they're accepted for the proof.

For that second SETV you're thinking of getting in Malaysia you're gonna need to show proof of onward travel at the thai consulate in Penang or KL too.
