Is immigration address certificate ok for address proof . Don’t want to rent for whole year as will be visiting many places in Thailand. Please let me know bank with less documentation ( regarding long stay address) and also how and where to get RE ENTRY PERMIT THANKS
Answer summary
The user seeks advice on opening a bank account in Thailand with a Non-O retirement visa, specifically mentioning their experience with Bangkok Bank and the documentation required. Many commenters suggest avoiding Bangkok Bank due to stringent requirements and recommend other banks like Kasikorn and SCB, although there are varied experiences and requirements depending on the branch. It appears that having a Residence Certificate from immigration and a Thai phone number is essential for account opening. The discussion also touches on obtaining a re-entry permit, which can be done at immigration offices or the airport. Overall, the consensus is that persistence in visiting multiple bank branches is key to successfully opening an account.

Avoid Bangkok Bank, as they are no longer Farang-friendly. If you are in Bangkok, go to Kasikorn's head office or one of the other banks. Each branch of each bank seems to have its own rules. Re-entry permits are available from any immigration office or at the airport when you leave.

All the same answers in facebook. The most stupid thing in Thailand to do by foreigner is to ask about immigration or bank or any authorities of Thailand. There are thousands of rules. Someone did A and it worked. Another man did the same A but it did not work at all. The same time, the same place, but the result is very different. Others success does not mean your success. My advice for banks in Thailand? if you have enough money, buy agent. -- 100% you get bank account in few hours. if you dont have enough money or do not want to pay for agent, just do it by yourself. Try it until you get one. maybe, if you try 10 banks branches, one of them maybe can open an account for you if you have normal luck. But if you have bad luck, you may try 100 banks branches. But if you have very good luck, you already have an account. Just good luck to you.

I have more thank one bank account now.. just in case i ever experience issues with BB.. which i use for proof of funds in support of my extensions.. but last week i asked them if their requirements had changed for a foreigner opening a bank account.. after listing everything they needed when opening my original account.. she clarified that a yellow book was mandatory instead of the CoR from immigration.. which i could understand if you have lived here many years but not if you are on your first 90-day non-o visa.. and finally she said you needed a Thai driving license.. i considered this for a minute then asked her why BB would only open an account for a foreigner who could drive a car.. a laughable requirement imo and verging on discrimination.. and i told her so.. but she deflected without offering an answer!

You will normally find that most banks will require a residency certificate from immigration and will refuse you without it but might not tell you why. I find that Kasikorn is most helpful and can produce the 12 month statement that you will need for a renewal at the branch but some other banks require up to 7 days notice to get them from head office so will help in the future. You have to open an account in the area that you are living according to the residency certificate but if that covers the immigration office I would try a bank near to them as they are more likely to know how to deal with expats.

Kasikorn are more open to give u what u want although 1 branch point blank refused me but the next branch 40km away accepted me

Stay clear of BB imo

To get a one year visa, also known as an Non-OA e-visa. You don’t need a Thai bank account. You get the e-visa from your home country before coming to thailand.

A year ago I did see Visa Agents in Pattaya that could get clients a Non-O visa and bank account.

This year I don’t know if that is still possible.

As a foreigner, try to get a credit card with VISA card through any of Thai bank.

Try to get a home loan.

With Thai banks, impossible.

The 800,000 THB deposited is not a bank requirement, it is Thai Goverment request that you are not a pauper.

After 40 years with IBM, biggest banks in the world, including the Bangkok Bank, I can tell you.

We, foreigners in Thai are the shttiest possible customers. No home loans, no credit cards, just a nuisance to maintain, no profit from us.

The BKK Bank has left us to the smaller banks

Kasikorn Bank, one expositure, Bangkok Seacon Square, said, my TM30 has my last name first (as in my passport), I have to go and request Immigration to change that. They need my first name first. Impossible.

Obviously, the branch had instructions never to open an account for a foreigner.

The second branch, also Kasikorn, MEGA shopping mall, said my TM30 province is Samut Praakan (100m away) and they are not allowed to open cross-province accounts.

The third branch, Kasikorn, Bang Na Central, officially Samut Prakan, did open my account but wanted to see my Thai wife and her Thai ID. Bring her in!

I was on Non O 90 days visa, independent, nothing to do with my wife. They did open my account as if my wife was my custodian.

Just to add to the answer what one might experience while trying to open a bank account with the Non O 90 days proper visa, Thai phone number.

I even had the Pink Thai ID and Thai Driving license. None of the expositures wanted my Certificate of Residence.

Jim Davis Seacon Kasikorn was only bank i went into and walked out in less than an hour with an account. I own an apartment 5 minutes walk and didnt tell them about the wife, maybe that helped. Certainly all over the place with their thinking and making up their own rules.

First of all, avoid Bangkok Bank.

Second of all, a work permit is not required to open a bank account. But the manager of the bank branch you went to doesn't want foreigners as customers, so they made up some requirements so you would leave. The manager of each bank branch sets their own requirements, so if one tells you no, go to the next one. You've tried ONE single bank branch and seems like you're ready to give up. You might need to try 5, 10, or 15 before you find one that will work with you.

You'll need a residence permit from immigration. You shouldn't need any lease for this. You'll need a TM30 from the owner of wherever you're staying.

You're also going to need a Thai phone number that's registered under your name and your passport number.

A re-entry permit is obtained from immigration or at the airport on your way out. But if you get it now, it's only going to be valid for the 90 days you received when you arrived. A re-entry permit is only valid for your current stamp when you purchase it. You should wait until you get the actual 1-year extension until purchasing the re-entry stamp, unless you're planning on leaving Thailand before then.

thanks a lot

That day I went to many different banks BB kasikorn and KRUNG Sri also UOB . All said no . UOB said they accept only if you have letter from other bank where you have account .

I know it’s not easy so I thought ask the group .

I am staying in hotel and they have registered me in immigration website just need to take that slip .

I heard also possible to get re entry permit at local immigration or one stop shop ( maybe not true now)

Thanks for reply very useful info .

that TM30 slip is only good for use at the immigration office where you must go to apply for a Residence Certificate. Once you have the certificate get a Thai SIM registered against your passport, and armed with these 2 items and your passport visit bank branches and ask to open an account. Note that every branch of every bank sets it's own policy so just because you get refused at one branch of a bank doesn't mean you will be refused at another branch of that same bank

Try another bank not BB with a Residence Certificate (not TM30) and get a Thai sim registered with your passport.

Steve Doucette well how do you transfer money for paying Thai bills to another Thai account without App? There is no online banking for normal people only for companies

Steve Doucette some banks will require that as they are stopping online banking for new accounts

Graham Seal My Thai ID Pink Card, does not follow my passport. Does not follow my phone number. Nothing, ever, never a new TM30, lifetime.
