Hello everyone,

I’ve read that it’s difficult to open a bank account with a DTV Visa.

I have a DTV and want to open a bank account in Chiang Mai.

I have a residence certificate.

What can I do?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Chiang Mai with a DTV Visa can be challenging. It is important to have the correct paperwork, including a residence certificate, and to approach different banks if you face initial rejections. Being polite, patient, and persistent is key. Many expats have found success after trying multiple banks, especially recommending Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn. Consider hiring an agent if needed, though it may incur additional costs.

Can be done but you need correct paperwork and approach. Be polite and if they don't understand ask for manager. Ask them to set up the app also so you can pay bills and purchase food and foods. Say you want to transfer money from your country every month. Be patient and don't give up

Just walk into any bank you come across, repeat and repeat. You might get lucky 1 day

I opened a bank account in Chiang Mai on a student visa almost three years ago. Different visa, but similarly difficult. Perhaps easier a few years ago, but you simply have to keep going to different banks until you find one who says yes to you. I was successful at Bangkok Bank in Central Airport mall. It was the third or fourth bank I tried. Dress as nice as possible and be as polite as possible. You can hire an agent, but that will cost you 5k baht or more. The bank may try to sell you insurance in order to open an account for you. That’s up to you if it’s worth it. Most foreigners like Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn. Be prepared for a few rejections, but someone will say yes eventually. Depends entirely on the manager and their branch’s current rules.

Keep trying at every branch or search for an agent
