i want to do things the most legal way possible. i have a US military disability pension of $4,100 monthly and have bank app showing more than 5 years of deposit of US Treasury checks into my account. i also have Veterans Affairs statements of my disability status as 100% permanent. i have only $15,000 in the bank but of course i can easily save half of that each month. how should i proceed to put the 800k baht into the bank?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on how to legally deposit 800,000 baht into a Thai bank account, given their circumstances of receiving a US military disability pension. Comments emphasize that to meet the bank requirement for the Non-O visa, the funds must be in the Thai bank account for at least two months before applying for a one-year extension. It's noted that while the user has proven income, initial visa applications often require a lump sum deposit in Thailand. Suggestions include consulting with visa agents and exploring options for transferring money from the US.

that was my plan coming here but for medical reasons. but it seems much more complicated and less guaranteed. however i will be going to Bumrungrad to schedule further appointments. i already had 2 procedures there last november and spent about $9000 then. i will gather all my paperwork then and try for the dtv while simultaneously banking the 800k baht for switching to retirement non o. does that sound doable?

If you are 50 yrs old, go with the non AO visa. No need for money in their bank. Use the Thai embassy near you for visa. We sent all papers and passports, got approved in two weeks from downunder.

first of all i live in thailand already. second, US embassy does not confirm pension for whatever stupid reason. so, thailand seems to require large money in the bank or bribes from visa agencies. i will arrange to put money in the bank.

good for you. I didn't say ANYTHING about U.S. embassy so strike 1. Didn't say ANYTHIBG about confirmation of pension so strike 2. You absolutely have an attitude issue so strike 3.

If you’d really like to get to Asia go to Cambodia and hang out for awhile . Siem Reap is a nice place. You can get a one year Visa there for 300. USD, no other financial requirements. Gives you time to build up your U.S. Bank Account. Once you get enough money in your U.S. account if you still want to live in Thailand you can then come here on Visa Exempt and start the Non O Retirement Visa process.

i just spent a year in phnom penh. btw, my retirement visa there was $200 not $300. it is always a fall back option.

a year I PP. You should have save like $2000 per month unless living lavishly. In one year should have had $2400. We lived(2 people) for $1200 per month. I like the siem reap idea for you. Give you time to build more savings and maybe the exchange rate improves. Then do the 800 baht in bank route. Or get a agent now. Many do.

Vietnam is an option too for awhile to build funds just need to bounce every 3 months

nah to cambodia. was having chest pains and difficulty breathing there. it all went away the very first day here in pattaya. the air is much cleaner and so is the weed. the view from my balcony ( lanai) here is ocean in cambodia the view was other buildings. i pay $325 less per month here and easily walk to jomtien night market for dinner. next time i move it will be France for snowboarding and visiting museums and of course restaurants. then back to my native ‘Oahu.

You don’t need to, it’s the lump sum OR regular income, not both.

@Kate ******
not for his initial request. Unless he has already had 13 months of deposits before he applies for the initial 90 day Non -O. If you are in country and from the US then the 800,000 deposit in Thai bank account is the only way to meet the financial requirements.
Kate *******
@Mike ********
if it’s his pension then he will have historical deposits to show on statements.

hire an agent, I'm assuming you're in Thailand? I would get into my Google maps application and call all the agents asking them how much it is to open an account and use one. The days of opening an account with the bank on a 60-day Visa from my perspective are done.

You put the 800k baht into the thai bank by transferring it from your home bank. If you're using it to apply for the 90 day Non-O visa inside Thailand there is no seasoning required (other than in jomtien I believe). For the 12 months extension of stay the 800k baht must be in your thai bank 2 months before you apply, must remain there for 3 months after and can't drop below 400k baht at any point

What age are you? Immigration doesn't care about anything you listed, except that you have the equivalent of bt800,000 in your personal bank account. The US embassy no longer issues wage verification letters, and that is the only thing immigration accepts initially to meet the monthly financial requirement. After you have been on the type O visa extension for at least one year, and have had regular monthly deposits into your Thai bank account from an overseas source of at least bt65,000, then, and only then, will immigration accept the monthly deposits method, as the US embassy will not verify your income. Sorry to say this, but it is reality with immigration.

initially you must have the equivalent of bt800,000 in your personal bank account. Applying in the US with that account balance will get you the initial 90 day type O visa based on retirement, and you'll have 90 days to enter Thailand once you get that. Then in Thailand you get a Thai bank account, and transfer the bt800,000 into it. After it has been in the account for at least two months then you can apply for the one year extension. You also have your pensions transferred into your account each month so that at the time of your next one year extension you have 12 months of regular deposits into your Thai bank account. Then you can change from the bulk deposit method to the monthly deposits method.

inside Thailand then you need the bt800,000 in a Thai bank account in your name only to start the process. As soon as it is in the account you can apply, and get the initial 90 day visa, then when the cash has been in the account for at least two months you can apply for the one year extension, but, being that you are in that town they might not let you apply for the one year extension until there is just one week left on the initial 90 day visa. They use different time frames there. If you don't have the bt800,000 then use an agent, but build your bank balance up to the bt800,000 so you can get rid of the agent at a later date, which will require you in most cases to start over completely. Most of the time you will need at least 15 days left on your visa to transfer over to a new reason, like retirement.

You can prove your income from your bank statements for getting your non-o visa from your home country. However, you have to have the 800k in a Thai bank account 2 months prior to your 1yr extension. The only way around this is to pay an agent to bribe an immigration officer. Works until it doesn't.
