Wondering if I can hire a driver in Pattaya who could drive me around Pattaya area tomorrow (Monday Apr 22).

I'm considering retiring in Thailand and an running out of exploration time... So I only have 1 full day to check out the area.

Any help or referrals would be appreciated. Planning to take bus from Bangkok to Pattaya mid-day today and return tomorrow evening.

Forget the bus, get a BOLT taxi!

I am also going to move to Thailand later this year.

My Thai girlfriend lives in Khon Kaen, it's easy travelling distance to Chiang Mai and Pattaya.

Pattaya is a cess pit for some or a haven for others, you should know if you want to live there already and why.

I doubt I would want to live in paydays proper hence the desire to see the area. I like to golf so getting too rural makes that a problem.

Hua Hin is excellent for golf and probably less of a risk in terms of taking a plunge into an area for a sustained period.

James Smith my goal on this trip is just to check things out. No commitments, just overview. Appreciate your and everyone's suggestions... Still need knowledgeable guide in different areas (Pattaya first). Have spent the last several days in Bkk and an just now starting to branch out. Probably should have posted request earlier than this morning! 🙄

Just tell us your montly budget and we can tell you exactly where is the nest area. Pretty much if you are on a tight or strick pension then inside Pattaya or the darkside. If you got a well planned 401k or retirement fund then the the Jomtien and Pratumnak area.

my finances are okay. My goal is to figure out WHERE I want to live. Pattaya is one of many options. Others are Hua Hin, Petchanuri, Trang, Songkhla, and even as far south as Kota Bharu.

maybe add krabi/ao nang to your list. 2 small international airports near here. I live in ao nang and I am 2.5 hr drive to Phuket airport or 45 min to Krabi airport. But I also liked Hua Hin when I Visited.

I'm going to try to cover many of those towns in the next 2 weeks.

You didn't ask but I will say any way...

Places you'll want to see if you are considering moving to Pattaya

Wongmat Beach (Naklua)

Soi Siam Country Club (the darkside, Nong Prue)

Central Pattaya/Pattaya Beach

Soi Bakhao (night time, dinner)

Pratumnak Hill

Jomtien/Jomtien Beach

Approximentally North to South with various degree of Farang/Thai mix.

I suspect you will get many recommendations for a driver but if you don't find one I can recommend my transfer service, also I know a girl whose English is perfect, she drives and often looking for extra work.

would be a luxury. This is intended to be a quick scan to see if Pattaya makes the list for consideration. Think of it like a real estate tour.
