Is it possible to hire one driver to drive a car from Pleangyao, chachoengsao province to khonkaen. Since my license is under process I couldn't drive for long distance. It's almost 6hrs 45 mins. It's a one way drop.on 12th or 13th. This coming week.

I can provide 1500baht

Bus fare for returning,

Food on the way.

Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

DRIVE IT YOURSELF!!! Thailand’s a joke and extremely corrupt. If they pull you, throw some small money and keep on trucking! Those traffic stops aren’t about safety with drivers zippin around at 200kph, it’s about who they can shake down for beer and whore money. Good luck 🍀

I got caught driving without a license. The “official” fine was 300thb, the “unofficial” fine was 200thb

Can you get an international driving permit?

@Aaron ******
not without a license

They have to be applied for in your home country. Plenty of flaky agencies will get you a fake IDP though.

I was assuming he had a license in his home country.

In many years of driving a car in Thailand, I've never been asked to show my license for any reason whatsoever. If something does happen, the fine is miniscule. Just drive yourself

if involved in an accident with serious property or body damage, no license means no insurance coverage, and can result in serious financial or criminal charges. As some have advised, how can anyone know that a "one off" six hour plus drive will be completed without incident? Is it worth the gamble?

Also, an important question, and can prove critical to a farang driver, do you have additional private insurance for ur car, beyond the minimal that comes with the annual registration? Even with another driver, this insurance is still needed.

Don't just think about getting caught without license. The bigger issue is when you're involved in an accident. Not those small ones that can be settled with cash. Those big ones that involves tow truck, police and insurance companies.

you've changed my mind. Completely changed my mind. 🥱

I have a license. If I didn't, I wouldn't hesitate to make a one off drive.

Just because it doesn't happen to you, doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else. You might be very careful when on the road but you are sharing the road with other drivers that might not be as careful as you.

everything is fine as long you are not involved in an accident.

Do you know Monopoly? Go over prison and start again. But not in Thailand anymore.

Jese, it's a 2 day thing cost almost nothing and you are on the safe side.

Who ever things it's fun here driving without ID: good luck.

I actually got stopped driving a car in Ubon Ratchathani going to Kalisin a couple years ago, only looking for drivers license. Never anywhere else in Thailand. I agree though, I'd just make the drive too.

Better off asking local tuk tuk drivers.

But even if you get caught with no license the fine will be less than 1500 baht

what happens if you have an accident while driving without a valid license? Will the insurance company cover your claim? I'm not trying to be a wise guy but I've heard insurance will not cover you without a valid license.
