Entered Thailand (from Australia) on Ed visa on 25 July 2018. Studying until now. Have got university support to undertake unpaid internship and have supporting documents. Looking to extend Ed visa up until 9 August - is this possible or do I need to apply for new Ed visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user entered Thailand on an Ed visa for studies and is currently seeking to extend that visa to pursue an unpaid internship. They have university support and necessary documentation. A comment suggests that extensions can be applied for at the Immigration office, using school documents.

With the ED visa you only get 90 days Admitted to Stay on an entry. You managed to stay till today, I guess you do the same as you did before with the documents of your school and apply for Extension of Stay at Immigration.

@Robert ******
thanks for the clarification about the government universities vs the language schools. The only real info I found on the internet was on the language school (obviously being more common scenario). So thanks for clarifying that.

University students won't have to leave. Just take all your documents to immigration. Thammasat should have prepared everything you will need. I did the same thing. You won't ever have to leave unless you stop the course, but since the internship is through the university you're all good.

That is why I asked but did not get an answer. It seems he is attending classes at the Thammasat University and talking he heared something about regulations of the Extension of Stay for a language course at one of the language schools. For a course at a University there are different requirements and regulations.

If you have the letters from the university it means that it has been formalized by the department of education and you have a small window before those documents expire I believe. So at this point I don't think you have too much say on extending anything.
@Robert ******
Does he have to leave Thailand and go to a consulate to apply for the new ED? Maybe I'm late to the party on this one.

Either way your school should be giving you instructions on just exactly what you need to do and where you need to go.

If you think you have everything, go and apply at Immigration Office.

I have got all the documents from Thammasat University already and have letters from TU to TRUE and also letters from TRUE to confirm internship
Robert *******
And this internship is part of your education? Than you have to speak with your school how to deal with the documents as they have to provide most of them to get the Extension or even for a new visa.

yeah Robert, I did an extension last year that brings me to June 15 this year and this internship opportunity came up, so I took it. I just heard that you can only get extensions up to a max of 12 months (including the original 90 days)
