UPDATE: I went back with my old passport as well as my new one and was able to change the name and passport number on my account.

Thanks all for the advice!

Will turn off comments but leave the post in case anyone else finds themself in the same situation 😊

———————————

I need to change my name on my SCB bank account, after taking my husbands surname when we married. I have been to 2 different SCB banks and both told me I need a document that shows/verifies my name change. The second bank told me that I can get this from the British Embassy. I’ve emailed the Embassy and they say they don’t provide that, but that they can provide a certified copy of my passport.

So has anybody done this successfully and can shed some light?

The documents I took to the bank were

-passport

-Thai marriage certificate

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user successfully changed the name and passport number on their SCB bank account after marriage by showing both the old and new passports. They initially encountered difficulty obtaining a document to verify their name change, but advice from commenters led them to resolve the issue without needing a verification from the British Embassy.

We had an agent do it. It was quick abd easy, but they handled it. It's all thai stuff not your embassy though.

Keep things simple. Open a new account with your new passport and name. Trust the funds out of the old account and your’re done. If it’s your account t that has the visa deposit you’ll get a letter and statements from both account for the next renewal. Should be ok as long as you have both old and new passport. I would also talk to a reputable visa agent or Thai immigration to verify that would work. Just an idea. Good luck.

then in that case, first remove all the money in that account. Second, close the account. Third, go to a different bank and open an account or go to a different SCB and open an account.

When I went I took the marriage certificate, new and old passports with the transfer stamp of my visa from immigration and also my husband. I had three different accounts from.different banks at the time and there were no issues to change my name and new passport number.

You don’t understand Thai culture. Your old passport will only make it more difficult for you. First remove all the money in the account with your previous surname. Second, close the account. Third, go to a different bank and open an account or go to a different SCB and open an account. This is the way to go with the flow of Thai culture.

If you’re British. I think your meant to get a verification of marriage. Before you get married from Thai consulate. If your Thai I’m not sure?
