How can I avoid scammers when applying for the DTV visa in Thailand?

Scammer alert! I approached this dude in this group and he told me he can help me with applying for the DTV, but now he isn't responding to my messages despite receiving money from me. His personal account name is Min Bo Aung and he seems to have an office located in Bangkok. The amount of money scammed is insignificant, but I just want to warn others.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has reported being scammed by an individual named Min Bo Aung, who offered assistance with applying for the DTV visa but subsequently stopped responding after receiving payment. While the financial loss is minimal, the user wants to alert others to this potential scam. Comments from other users suggest that many people may not need external assistance for the DTV application, and it is generally advised to handle the paperwork personally. Several users recommend reporting scammers and mention trustworthy companies for visa assistance.

If you need somebody use a company called “settle abroad “out of Pattaya they only charge me ฿8000 to do my application very easy to send all my documents to them through Google Drive. They were professional they corrected mistakes that I would have made if I had done the application myself I received my DTV Visa within five working days and again the total cost for their work was ฿8000

You don't need anyone to help you.

Each application is unique, there is no standard "format" or "template". The main requirement is having 500,000 Baht or equivalent in a personal bank account and possibly having to maintain that for up to 6 months at some embassies. Usually, except for Malaysia and Laos, it's enough just to have a closing balance of 500,000 Baht BUT make sure you have 6 months worth of statements.

The rest depends on what you do - easy to figure out what to supply, bank statements showing money being paid to you coming in, a portfolio of what you do, that sort of thing.

well for me. I’m glad I use the agency. It was only 8000 ฿ and it saved me a little bit of hassle just like I don’t wash my own dress clothes I take them to the cleaners let somebody else do it 😁

How much did you lose?

How much

Why would you ask for help with a DTV? It would take longer than doing it yourself…
Matthew *******
Beauty of FB, anyone can create any profile having any names so must be careful. When I see so many “I can help” messages… it is expected. Thanks for the warning.

Sorry this happened. no one can apply for you. It is all personal and financial information you should give to no one. please open the portal for the e-visa process before asking for assistance.

(Generally directed).

For those interested in applying for the DTV as an employee of an offshore, non-Thai company all of the documentation is very simple. I spent a few hours gathering the required information and submitting it to the Thai embassy in Washington DC. Approval took a few weeks. It's very straightforward. No need to waste your money on a third party. However I'm considering switching to the 10 year "Work from Thailand Professional" LTR visa. The requirements are quite similar but the benefits seem to be much better.

@Shawn ************
OK, although that still means it has to be a large company.
Paul *******
@Shawn ************
The requirements for the LTR are vastly more stringent. In the sense that you need much more money in the bank to qualify (and/or a quite high salary, although I understand they did away with the minimum salary requirement recently...you'd need to check on that). However, you'll probably still need to invest a minimum of US$250,000-500,000 in Thai bonds or real estate or something.

@Paul ******
I'm doing the Work Professional LTR. The only difference from the DTV is the corp financial audit documentation and the $50 mill/year corp revenue requirement.
Paul *******
@Shawn ************
I see, but that's a big difference from what I can see. You do need to be working for a large company that is listed on the stock exchange.
Shawn *************
@Paul ******
there's no requirement the company is listed on the stock exchange. The requirement is a letter of financial audit stating the corp revenue is a minimum of $50 million.

@Shawn ************
Vastly different. Most people here are Youtubers with twenty seven subs or crypto day trading experts or sublet a property as company director of a management firm.
Paul *******
@Alexander ************
Or they're programmers or doing any sort of "work from home" job...but usually aren't working for a fortune 500 company.

the reply is for people, as I noted, who work for international companies.

Burmese... Good luck tracking them down...

@Andrew *******
Why? Shouldn't be that difficult...as with any foreigner.

@Paul ******
Myanmar border isn't that far from BKK... Local knowledge and you can sneak out when needed...
Paul *******
@Andrew *******
Also, the airport is far closer...a foreign scammer of any nationality will be on a plane to Phnom Penh, Vientiane, or Kuala Lumpur (or anywhere really) much quicker than they can get to a land border from Bangkok.

@Andrew *******
I doubt that a Burmese citizen scammer is willingly going back to Myanmar now given the situation over there.

You approached someone?

The name is Burmese nationality. As a Burmese, I despise scammers , please report to the police with evidence and freeze his account

Anyone that tries to pull you aside from the group chat is questionable, please report to the group admin.

You don’t need help to apply for DTV. So people who are looking for help are prime scamming candidates
Mark *******
@Wesley *******
yeah you also don’t need help to pay your taxes - but ppl pay to have them done all the time - why? Because time is money friend - and sometimes it’s cheaper to pay someone else to do it. Also, if you make a mistake and your application is denied - it costs you more than paying for someone to help you.

well said 👍😁😫

The problem is some (most) visa agents charge very expensive for this service. Much more than an accountant for a tax filling. It is not unusual to see a price of 50 to 80K fto apply or a DTV visa. And non of them guarantee the outcome.
Marb ********
@Mark ******
so how much time did he save from this?
Robert *********
@Mark ******
taxes can be complicated, the DTV not… It will take less time doing it yourself.

@Mark ******
I've had more difficulty wiping my backside than I did applying for a DTV. It's so easy it's actually laughable.
Mark *******
@Jim *******
while it’s easy, some of the questions are not straightforward because of THENGLISH. I did my form myself, and was approved, but it is definitely not easier than wiping your backside unless you’re the size of the main character in THE WHALE.

@Mark ******
what you said some it’s true but no one can guarantee that what you pay for ppl to help your application is going to approve if they do ! They lie no one can say it going to approve 100% as I ask a few agents to help price is 60k till 120k to help so it cost more for help than visa

@Mark ******
applying for DTV is a lot easier than doing your tax though. If you're not even able to fill a form and provide a couple of documents it's to wonder how you can be a functioning adult
