I nam American, married to Thai woman. Vast majority of assets in USA. I am curious in general terms how people in similar situation are ensuring their spouse is taken care of when they pass away. Is there life insurance here in Thailand? Other methods?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
American expats married to Thai nationals often seek ways to secure their spouse's financial future after their passing. Recommendations include creating legal wills, obtaining life insurance (both general health insurance with life components and specific life insurance policies), and considering asset transfer strategies like holding property in the spouse's name. Engaging with legal professionals experienced in expat matters in Thailand is also advised, especially for comprehensive estate planning.

Yep thought about that a while ago hence living in wife's villiage, modest house all paid for, as my first thought was upkeep and general preventive maintenance during my time here plus when I depart. Thais not big on maintenance, so no grass concrete and shingle area but garden. House and land obviously in wife's name and have her named to pick.up my military pension when the day comes.

Have you spent any time married in the USA? Agree with other posters that's a good foundation (Citizenship /SS/joint assets).

You should be applauded for consideration if anything else

Thai assets by Thai Will, foreign assets by a foreign will.

Via your will, alternatively there's lots of life insurance companies or indeed health insurance that have a life insurance component
