What to do when the Thai Embassy in Jakarta repeatedly requests documents for a DTV visa application?

DTV Jakarta nightmare: 28 days of "document dripping", status moved BACKWARDS, and CNY holidays starting soon.

Hi everyone,

I need to share my experience because the Thai Embassy in Jakarta is driving me crazy. I've been waiting for 28 days for my DTV (Muay Thai) and the process has been a constant "document dripping" every two weeks.

Here is the step-by-step of this nonsense:

1. Initial Application: I submitted everything required (Gym certificate from Tiger Eye, 500k+ THB in bank, etc.).

2. First Request (2 weeks in): They asked for EVERY single page of my current passport and my detailed bank transactions. I sent it all immediately.

3. Second Request (2 weeks later - Day 27): This is the craziest part. My status was already "Pending Approval", but yesterday they moved it BACKWARDS to "Request More Documents".

4. Current Status: Now they want my OLD PASSPORT (all pages), my 2026 training program, and actual photos of me training to prove I’m a real Muay Thai athlete (luckily I had my old passport with me and photos of my technique).

I’ve provided:

• Full history of my old passport (including a previous Non-B visa and legal exits).

• High-quality photos showing my stance, guard, and interaction with the Kru.

• Proof of funds way over the limit.

I am currently in Bali and my Indonesian visa is expiring. I already paid for an extension here just to wait for Thailand, and now Chinese New Year is next week. I’m terrified they will close the embassy and leave me in limbo for another 10 days after a month of waiting.

Has anyone else experienced this in Jakarta? How can they ask for documents every 2 weeks instead of all at once? Any advice on how to reach a human there?

Thanks.

I don’t think they’ll be off next week, at least I haven’t found any information. In their official holiday schedule there’s nothing about Chinese New Year.

Also applied in Jakarta, waiting 😮‍💨

What about someone that just wants to start with may thai and doesn't have previous experience? I mean, everyone is new at some point. What would they do in this situation? 🤔

It is ok to be a newbie, many DTVERS are approved with zero experience.

i had the same thought, I was lucky that I've been training may Thai since I was in high school and also trained last year in Thailand so I had tons of pictures as a proof. but it is something to be aware of if you had no experience at all.. it should be mentioned at least in the website... :(

Did muay thai dtv there as well, from Bali. Mine took nearly a month to be approved, had to also do a visa extension for an additional 30 days. Then had to get the spouse dtv for my wife, almost took them a month as well and we even had to do a quick visa run to return back to Bali. On the day of the visa run, they approved it that morning (by coincedence as they obv didnt know)

Insanely slow over there.

Participante anónimo 390 Totally reasonable, but I have to move from my apartment in Bangkok this month due to I agreed with my landlord to end my lease on February ( I was holding a nonb visa and was living in Thailand in my apartment). I did not expect to spend one whole month in bali while I have a lot of things to do in Thailand as well...

Anonymous participant 390 How is this relevant when you run out of legroom to legally remain within their jurisdiction (e.g. your Indonesian visa expires with no option to extend)?

Here to comment point #3: they requested me more documents, moved to Pending Approval, they pulled me back to Pending Document Check & here’s the surprise: they sent me an email for interview at Jakarta Embassy while I live in Bali— and yes I flew 🙂

Got my visa 3 hours after I’ve done the interview. My suggestion would be: spare around 4-5 weeks period but luckily you’re in Bali ✨ You may email the Consular (you can search the email as it’s somewhere at this group, I’m sure) telling your situation.

P.S. I totally understand your position & I wish you lots of luck!
