Hi, My wife and I are looking to apply for the DTV (soft power activities)myself being the main applicant, does my wife have to enrol in these activities also or is it just the main applicant? Also what minimum time periods do we need to enrol for, as we plan to stay in Thailand approximately 6 months each year.

Thanks in advance

PS- would a Thai language course qualify as a soft power activity?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In applying for the DTV (soft power activities) in Thailand, only the main applicant is required to enroll in the approved activities; the dependent (wife) does not need to participate. It is advisable to enroll in activities with a minimum duration of at least 6 months to increase the chances of visa approval, as shorter durations may result in being issued a different type of visa. Additionally, a Thai language course usually does not qualify as a soft power activity, although some language schools might offer courses that include elements of Thai culture to meet DTV criteria.

There are Thai language schools offering the DTV. Lessons include a mix of Thai culture and language to be able to meet the criteria for DTV acceptance.

The Thai language course is not considered a form of soft power.

Firstly Thai language doesn’t usually qualify for a soft power activity (there has been an unverified mention that someone got a dtv for it but that was in the very early days of the visa).

Only the main applicant has to enrol in the activity. Dependents apply after the applicant has their visa.

How long depends on the activity and/or embassy applying. Most suggest applying for an activity that will last at least 6 months or longer.

There are many reports of people who have applied with a course of less than that and being issued a multiple entry tourist visa instead.

Some have gotten a dtv with a single dentist or medical appointment but again that was probably in the early days of the dtv.

Look at the Thai Embassy website serving the country you will be applying from to see their specific requirements as they approve your eVisa application. You get yours first then your wife applies as your dependent (or vice versa).
