My son and I are leaving Thailand and not coming back.

My son only has his Danish passport. His Thai one is expired.

Does he need to renew the Thai one to leave Thailand or is hos Thai id sufficient so he won't be stopped when flying out?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When leaving Thailand, a Thai citizen must typically depart using the same passport under which they entered the country. Since the user's son only has a Danish passport and his Thai passport is expired, he is advised to renew the Thai passport before departure. Various comments emphasize that renewing a Thai passport is relatively easy and can often be done swiftly in Thailand, sometimes even on the same day. It is also highlighted that parental consent may be required for travel.

Thinking forward, get a Thai passport and ID card, even though he doesn't need it now, it could be a lifesaver in years to come if he chooses to travel or work in ASIA

You cannot leave a country on a different passport to the one you entered on (unless it is a renewed/replacement of the original)

Doesn't make sense to me. Why didn't you (or he) enter on the Thai passport? Coming in on Danish passport, he has to leave on the Danish passport.

As someone with both thai and uk passport. If he entered Thailand on his Danish Passport, he needs his thai passport to leave Thailand, just get it renewed at the passport office with both mother and father.

Get new one now its easier. See lots of people on Thai citizenship group who left as kids and now its a struggle getting all paperwork. Keep his ID current easier

Renew his Thai passport while you are here, it’s easy to do, very cheap, done in about a week and will save you a lot of hassle down the line.

I said if you don’t want to travel or pay any extra fast track charges you can get a Thai passport from your local office in as little as one week.

But, if you want the hassle of travelling to BKK and paying extra that’s one day, personally I wouldn’t want to travel to BKK.

If your son is Thai you need permission from the mother to travel. He needs to leave in the same passport he entered. When applying for a new passport you also need permission from the mother.

Has your son always lived in Thailand? If your son arrived in Thailand using his Thai passport then these details will be recorded and he will only be able to depart using a current Thai passport

Without his Thai passport he might need proof and stamp when he came in and probably a visa in his Danish paspoort. Are you trying to get him out the country?
