Does changing schools for the kids affect the visa status for the Non-O and ED visa already issued under one school? How could the change affect the renewal next year? Does the school change need to be notified to Immigration?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Changing schools can significantly affect your visa status under Non-O and ED visas in Thailand. The current extensions tied to the original school become invalid when a student changes schools. You will need to cancel your existing visas/extensions associated with the previous school and obtain a termination letter from that school. Afterward, you can apply for new visas/extensions under the new school, but it's crucial to check both schools' procedures. In some cases, you might need to leave Thailand to apply for a new visa, while in other cases, you may handle the process within Thailand if the schools cooperate.

You cannot stay on the current extension based on the student/guardian when the student changes schools. Those visas/extensions are tied to the school.

When the student stops studying at school A, you cancel extensions of your child and you, with the termination letter from school A. Then apply for Non-ED/Non-O (visas and/or extensions) with school B, where the student continues to study.

It depends on both schools' procedures whether you can apply for new visas and/or extensions with school B immediately after cancelling extensions with school A, OR you must go out of Thailand once to apply for a new Non-ED/O visa. If both schools collaborate well, you might complete the changing procedures in Thailand without leaving.

You need to talk about the details with both schools well in advance.
