"Transit Visa" does it actually exist?

From Wiki: "Transit: This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes: to travel in transit through the Kingdom in order to proceed to the country of destination or to re-enter his/her own country (category "TS"); the person in charge of or crew of a conveyance coming to a port, station, or area in the Kingdom (category "C")"

Anyone here ever heard of someone getting a "Transit" visa. Seems like Bigfoot - often mentioned, never confirmed.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the existence and nature of the 'Transit Visa' for Thailand, often likened to a myth. While it is officially defined as a visa for travelers transiting through Thailand or for crew members, there are mixed experiences regarding its issuance. Comments indicate that while the transit visa is recognized, it is not commonly obtained, with some travelers opting for a visa on arrival instead. Instances of confusion regarding its application at consulates have also been noted.

Thanks Tod. Just trying to clarify who and on what basis someone would want/receive a transit via as opposed to a tourist visa or, where applicable, VOA. Seeing this often requested by Indian tourists "transiting" through BKK when their connection leaves airside (passes immigration) in which case they need another VOA.

Yep, it's a visa that gets you stamped in for 30 days and you buy it from a thai consulate BEFORE you wing your way here.

I just recently saw one when the thai consulate in Coral Gables Florida mistakenly issued it to an american who wanted a tourist visa :O

Also I have heard of people who usually buy visa on arrivals get them instead of a tourist visa because the requirements are lower and they are going to another country after thailand too.
