Do you need a visa to travel to Vietnam if you're from the UK, USA, or other countries?

ORIGINAL POSTER
If you’re planning to travel to Vietnam for DTV, don’t forget to check if you need a visa for Vietnam (especially if you’re from the USA, Australia, the UK, Switzerland, etc.).

I missed my flight today because of this—the airline couldn’t let me check in! 😆

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original post raised concern about visa requirements for travelers heading to Vietnam, specifically questioning if passports from the USA, Australia, UK, Switzerland, and others require a visa. Multiple comments clarified that UK passport holders do not require a visa for Vietnam, and some travelers highlighted that entering Phú Quốc island also does not need a visa. The importance of verifying visa requirements before traveling was emphasized, with users sharing personal experiences related to travel mishaps due to these requirements.

Im guessing the whole system needs to go through customs but i'd imagine the materials can be bought there and it would save on costs and hassle. LOL : )

The return flight is a separate issue. In principle you are supposed upon entry to have a return/onward flight or other transportation ticket for every country or territory where you are not a resident. In practice this is enforced somewhat arbitrarily, some countries/airlines always ask for it others rarely/not at all. But normally you can still mitigate this if it should happen to you, you can just buy a fully refundable ticket on the spot and cancel sometime later.

Yeah, no visa needed for Vietnam for UK citizens and can stay 45 days . No questions asked upon arrival, just stamped in. Not sure if you don't need a departure ticket, usually that is for long term visas.

i made a similar mistake. I thought it was voa and then booked a flight 3 days ahead and rescheduled it just to be safe as the visa takes 3 days they say. Vietjet are surprisingly flexible though for a fee

I’m pretty sure Americans need a visa because of that little thing called the Vietnam war? It’s just a guess. I’m American and applied for a visa in Vietnam, it’s not that big a deal, but it’s still a hassle because you have to wait for it to be approved

actually Vietnam has a pretty good relationship with the US nowadays. Lotta Viet emigrants in the US and they used to give a very favourable 1 year visa to US citizens.

Things change though
