This post only has value for US citizens who stay in Thailand 6 months or less per year and are using a Medicare advantage plan. These are my reimbursements from Medicare advantage from United Healthcare. As you can see, I was already reimbursed by the plan.
Answer summary
This discussion centers around the applicability of Medicare Advantage plans, particularly from United Healthcare, for US citizens residing in Thailand for up to six months. The original post shares personal experiences with reimbursements from a Medicare Advantage plan while living abroad. Commenters highlight the variability in coverage, noting that many plans may not cover international medical expenses, and emphasize the importance of verifying individual plan details and the limitations around emergency services.

Each group’s United Medicare Advantage Plan is different. Most of the plans do not cover international health insurance. But I also have this United Health Care international travel insurance coverage and am grateful to hear that they honored John’s claims.

But UHC says that the plan covers only travel related claims. I’m not sure how long they will cover in this way. I’ve heard different reports about that.

But coverage in any event is not guaranteed as each claim is evaluated separately.

And it is my understanding that it will NOT cover emergency international medical ambulance services.

That’s great to know, I was told it does cover but you never really know for sure.

That’s interesting. If you look at the United Healthcare advantage plan it clearly states that medical expenses abroad will not be covered.
