Hello, thanks for adding me. I have a banking question. I tried to ad my sister to my account as beneficiary, the bank said they couldn’t do it, apparently I need to write a will? Can someone clarify this situation for me?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is trying to add their sister as a beneficiary to their bank account in Thailand but was informed by the bank that they need to write a will instead, as a beneficiary cannot be added directly. Comments clarify that if the sister is not in Thailand, adding her as a joint account holder is also not possible.

I take it your sister is not in Thailand ? If she was you could open a new joint account but as Tod says, the bank will not just add a name.

Thanks for the input, a will it is.

It's a little off topic of a thai visa question but I'd say the bank is right and you need to write a will designating that she gets the money in your account
