Hi folks , do u need a will in Thailand ? A will written by a Thai solicitor. If u died without a Thai wife but u wanted to leave your money that’s in a Thai bank to a Thai how could they access it ?

Leaving an ATM card with a PIN number would take along time to withdraw at only 20k bhat at a time !!

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion focuses on the necessity of having a legal will in Thailand for expats. It highlights the issues surrounding asset transfer to beneficiaries, particularly for non-Thai spouses or relatives, and the potential complications in accessing funds at Thai banks without a will. Recommendations for legal assistance and the relevance of the will's location are also mentioned, alongside inquiries about the implications of having a will from a different country.

Ronnie Staff I would contact US Citizen Services in Thailand. They provide these services upon the death of a US citizen.

Serve as provisional conservator of the estate if there is no legal representative in the country.

Send the Consular Report of Death Abroad to the next-of-kin or legal representative for use in settling estate matters in the United States.

They might be able to assist your children getting access to the account.

Yes get a will. Or else someone taking funds out would be illegal. The bank release the money if they are stated in the will (not sure of the process).
