What should I do if my same-day border run is uncertain due to immigration issues with my METV?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone done a same-day border run in the last day or two?

I have a METV and I’m scheduled to go with Chiang Mai Border Run tomorrow, but they just notified me that their “collaborating immigration officer” won’t be on duty, so same-day re-entry isn’t guaranteed at the moment due to the unstable immigration rules.

I’m concerned because I’m not prepared for a 2-night stay, and my current extension is only valid until 11/26. Any recent experiences or advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about a scheduled same-day border run from Chiang Mai due to unavailability of a collaborating immigration officer, which may affect re-entry rules for their METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa). They seek advice on recent experiences regarding such border runs, especially given the proximity of their visa extension's expiry.

I would fly out and back in if you have a METV you won’t need a collaborating IO

Typically they go to Chiang Khong, where there are some wishy washy goings on. You can go to the Sop Ruak border crossing at the Golden Triangle and bounce back in less than an hour.

Am travelling from phetchuban to Udon Thani and want to do a border crossing so was thinking nong Khai makes sense.

are you aware of the ease of going over the border and back in nong Khai on the same day. ?

If border bounce on visa exempt stamp definitely seems they are holding people back, dunno how they are treating DTV holders

I am not border bouncing on a visa exempt.

I have a Non O with a multiple re-entry permit.

my question still stands. 🙏

as mentioned the new crackdown applies to border bouncers exploiting free Visa exempt stamps.

if you hold a non o, with re-entry, you are NOT the target group that are being cracked down on. You are good to go.

Did you make an extension for a METV? I thought that only applies for visa free exemption.

Anyway, the METV is meant for that purpose of going and coming freely, no? Multiple entries tourist visa? You shouldn't worry too much.

I did! They know I’m on an E-Visa (METV), and originally they said same-day returns were fine for DTV and E-visa holders.

But now they’re basically saying I might have to stay two nights in Laos despite having an E-Visa.

Just trying to see how things have been in the past couple of days.

if you mean "they" as the agencies, be mindful that they usually offer border runs for visa free exemption people who are doing it repeatedly. In your case you shouldn't even take an agency to take you to the border since the METV holders wouldn't need to pay an agency to do something that is part of your rights as a holder of that visa.

Right, that’s why I was surprised. They know I’m on an E-Visa (METV), and originally they said same-day returns were fine for DTV and E-visa holders.
