Will I be denied entry to Thailand after leaving for Vietnam on a Visa Exemption?

Hello everyone basically I had a 60 day Visa on arrival and then extended it. I’m reaching of my 30 day extension and I have booked a flight to Vietnam for a week and then I come back obviously after my 90 days has finished.

I have to leave half my stuff in Thailand, like cameras, drones, expensive equipment. This is because I am unable to purchase additional baggage due to already of reaching the max baggage allowance for the flight.

I have a friend I’m coming back with to spend Christmas time and then going back to Vietnam with the rest of my stuff

However, I am worried that I will be denied entry. I have paid for fast track and I have a Thai person meeting me at my gate when I arrive back to Bangkok however, I am just scared that I will lose all my belongings and get denied entry just so everyone knows as well. This is my first ever time visit in Thailand right now I’ve never been before.

I would want to know does the Visa get reset on 1st January anyway 100%

The people think I will be OK considering it’s my first time in Thailand. What extra precaution should I take to ensure a safe arrival?

Also as for proof of funds does it have to be cash or can it be bank

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user expresses concern about potentially being denied entry back into Thailand after a trip to Vietnam, following a 60-day Visa on Arrival and a subsequent extension. They share their situation of having to leave expensive equipment behind due to baggage limits and seek advice on whether their visa will reset after leaving and what precautions to take for their return. Comments from the community provide various perspectives, suggesting that proper documentation like a return flight, accommodation, and proof of funds will be key in ensuring smooth re-entry, though caution is advised regarding the frequency of stays in Thailand.

Perhaps consider obtaining a proper Visa. The IO might not consider you a tourist given the length of time you are in Thailand. The IO may not know but the amount of equipment and luggage is more than a tourist would carry.

Good point, I’ll get in my Time Machine, and go back 90 days ago and get a 6 month visa. You raise a good point, it is a lot of luggage, but tourists tend to buy a lot of stuff on holiday, especially ones who are filming a documentary

You can take your equipment with you just pay fir extra checked baggage

Well if you used your fucking eyes like sina also didn’t you’d see me say ‘I HAVE REACHED MY ADDITIONAL WEIGHT LIMIT’

Am I going crazy or are people just simply not reading past the first two words of my post????

@Jay *****
people realize that with $$ you can take additional weight just look at any Chinese tourist on their way home

Well regardless, I’m unable to wheel 7 suitcases on my own around constant flights, I’d rather make 2 trips and ask a visa group for their opinion.

Staying in Thailand for more than 90 days every six months after your initial entry can raise serious suspicions, especially after an exemption extension and a short stay in a border country without returning to your home country. However, you must be able to show an exit ticket for no more than 60 days, a hotel reservation, and 20,000 baht or equivalent in cash. Allowing you to enter is up to the police officer.

I question how expensive everything is that you wont pay an extra $42? for a bag to take your expensive eqpt? When I went back to the USA, even on a DTV, I took anything I considered important with me before I left my house.

Which has 0 to do with cost…. But thanks for your input x

Well if you actually used your fucking eyes sina you’d see that I said ‘I have reached my weight limit for additional baggage’……

FYI, regardless of the information you provided, the airline will be happy to charge you for a virtually unlimited number of extra bags.

This is how the airline earns a profit.

Don’t rely on the booking dot com or airline interface, call the airline and ask.

I regularly see people fly with 12 large foot lockers worth of luggage, exotic cars, and even race horses.

Just because it’s not on the drop down menu doesn’t mean it’s not available.

Oh, I did not know that brook, I just went off the luggage policy on my ticket. Thanks for the help appreciate a lot x

Bullsh*t. You only entered on a visa exempt, how much 'heavy' expensive stuff did you bring for a 60 days stay?

Enough to film a documentary Mate? Around

kg of equipment….. You can cry bullshit all you want it doesn’t make you right does it as I’ve said I have a weight limit of how much weight I can bring do you know what fucking weight means mate? it doesn’t mean amount of suitcases I was able to add a 21KG and a 23KG and I had 10KG carry on included, now I’m not sure if you’re very good at maths clearly you’re fucking not but that’s not enough to bring 77 KG hence why I have to buy another flight and bring the rest of my stuff the following week….. the fact that I’m actually having to reply to you is embarrassing on my part
Sina ***********
The retardation in this post.

@Jay *****
Not how airlines work you can always buy more bag allowance but good anger issues.
Jay ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
And of course I’m going to be a little bit angry when you haven’t read my post properly and now are denying simple facts
Jay ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
Well that’s simply not true, you can’t take more than the limit can you…… so not only can you not read, you also can’t learn

@Jay *****
check with the airline’s website rather than Google’s AI answer. It varies greatly on airlines operating between Thailand and Vietnam. Some airlines, ie Vietjet, offer upto 100kg checked luggage, but it depends on the route. AirAsia offer upto 50kg on some routes. Thai and Vietnam Airlines follow that American 23kg model shown in your screenshot. Hope that helps. It would be awful if you were denied access but your expensive stuff was here.

I’m losing the will to live here replying to most people, Jesus, I know Google is incorrect. Google says I can bring 32 absolute max but the airline but the airline actually allowed. I think it was 52 KG problem is I’ve got 77 KG is it starting to make sense yet Jeff

@Jay *****
where does it say you reached your limit ?I read max a bag can weigh is 32kg i dont read anywhere it says you can not take 6 or 7 bags of 23kg or more bags. Can you explain to me as I want to learn
Jay ******

Read it through….

I literally put a screenshot above have a look, you can add an additional x2 checked in bags on top of the one you get with the premium fare. I have about
*****
kg which I was unable to purchase enough weight to bring. I am fully aware that I can bring practically as many suitcases as I want as long as they meet my weight limit the problem is and a lot of people in this conversation thread are completely blind of reading. There is a weight limit, not an amount of suitcase limit.
J **************
@Jay *****
so you are taking how many checked bags?
Jay ******

Potentially 3

X3 big and 1 carry on… I have probably another 2 cases left

If you are 50 or over apply for 90 day O Visa based on retirement. If you are under 50 apply for tourist/DTV. I'd be wary of arriving again visa exempt in the current climate.

Thank you x

I don't think January 1st has anything to do with it. There's still a chance you could be denied but nobody will tell you that with 100% certainty. In my opinion, considering your situation, you should be allowed to enter. However, they may ask some questions and warn you that this is your last time using the visa exemption and they might recommend that you apply for a visa.

If u have time, just go to immigration to check on out because many questions might arise now as me is not professional to give you the right answers, talk to them and ask their opinion

@Jay *****
I'll be popping out Christmas and coming back New Years so just have 20,000 baht worth of currency, accommodation adress, a ticket out and filled out DTAC
Jay ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
Now that’s what I call help, thank you very much Mike, I’m happy to see you read the post and have advice, unlike some people *coughSINA&PAULcough*
Lynnette *******
You didn't pay for a Visa On Arrival, you came in exempt of a visa/no visa. You should be ok to return on the same visa exempt. Look tidy, have accomodation booked. 20,000 baht or any currency cash. Fill in TDAC.
Steve *******
@Lynnette ******
And proof of onward travel within 60 days 👍

True. I was sure I'd put it, but probably in my head. Lol. Blame my old brain. 🥴
