Money in the bank

When showing proof of funds, does it have to be in a bank account of the country you’re applying from or can it be in your name but in a different country? An offshore account basically.
Summary so far
The inquiry revolves around whether proof of funds for a Thailand visa application needs to be in a bank account located in the applicant's home country, or if funds can be held in an offshore account in the applicant's name.

Anywhere as long as it is your name. Also having a pension can increase your chance of approval (not a must, but good to have).

The thing is....if the authorities smell something fishy, they're just gonna play it safe and disapprove your visa.

Anywhere - in theory. But the more offshore the money is, the more likely that the consulate might have additional questions / require more formal proof - e.g. statements stamped by the bank (or even notarized). You will likely be fine, just be prepared. Application of "rules" is a big and inconsistent mess among different consulates.

how often are they asking for notorized documents.

The accounts do not have to be banks that are in the country in which you reside however they will need to be instant access accounts.

okay cool because I am not trusting UK banks with my money once I sell my house. You can’t even take a couple of grand out these days without them calling you to back to grill you and decide if THEY think you can have YOUR money or not.

UK banks are the worst.

I found Starling bank there to be good as they are online and have never had a problem with them.

They are registered for England but are completely online. Just in case you need a UK based bank.

They allow you to live abroad as well, which alot of banks don’t allow for.

I think it’s going to require a lot of research before deciding what bank and account I actually put my money in long term or maybe just best to speak it out across a few for just in case. The world is cooked right now.
