If I do the Non O retirement visa,, does the 800000 baht have to be transfered from my Aussie account,,, or can I just transfer it from my Thai wifes account, (which we use for our funds here,, which were transfered from OZ) into the Thai account I will get when I do the visa

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Non-O retirement visa, it is possible to transfer the required 800,000 baht from various sources. However, some immigration offices, such as those in Bangkok, may require that these funds be transferred from abroad into a Thai bank account in your name only, at least two months prior to your application. It's crucial to check the specific policies of the immigration office you intend to use, as requirements can vary. Moreover, the funds must remain over 800,000 baht for three months after the transfer, but they can drop to 400,000 baht within the seven months preceding this period.

Okay took me a while to find but here's a copy of the first page of the hand out you get from Bangkok Immigrations out at Chaengwattana Section C-1 where you go to apply for the in country 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht

Clearly states under 5.3

I said multiple times this is NOT a requirement at all immigration offices

ed a requirement at some of them.

Matthew Plymale I got no idea why my comments riled you up ๐Ÿ˜• , wasn't trying to yank your chain, just relate information.

I'm not trying to give bad information, not trying to run anyone off the rails, just pointing out that depending on the immigration office you use, moving the 800k from your thai wife's bank account into your thai bank account may not work for you.

Just to add, Jomtien requires 2 month seasoning even for the initial Non-O

Doubt it matters
Tod *********
It totally depends on the immigration office and it could indeed matter a great deal if they are using an office that requires proof of origin of funds

What kind of visa are you currently on?

The money can come from anywhere (do check with your immigration office as some may require funds from outdide of Thailand) along as it goes into your Thai bank account in your name only 2 months before you apply and important to note 3 months after it has to remain over 800k. The 7 months between seasoning of 800k it can drop to 400k. I myself will just keep it to 800k all year round
Tod *********
@Luciano **********
you be careful spouting out broad brush information like that because there are indeed several immigration offices that require the 800k for the initial 90 day non-o visa to come from abroad
John **********
@Luciano **********
that's for an extension of stay, not for the initial 90 day Non-O visa

I will add check with your immigration office whether the funds have to come from outside Thailand. This is Thailand and each immigration office have different interpretations on rules
Luciano ***********
@Paul ****************
but do double check with your immigration office on where the funds originate from. This is Thailand so each office can and do operate like a separate country 555

What is the reason why it must come from abroad. Isn't

0 the same money regardless how it was deposited.

@Matthew ********
so you've been getting extensions of stay not a Non-O visa and extensions do not require the banked funds to be from international transfers

@Matthew ********
... it matters simply because the immigration offices say so and every IO has it's own twist on the official rules so ultimately, it's their call whether we like it or not!
Tod *********
@Matthew ********
as far as what the reason is that some offices require it, that doesn't even enter into the equation.

It is a policy at several immigration offices and you either follow that policy or you don't get the visa.

Which is why I told the O/P to check with their immigration office and see what their particular policy is..

@Matthew ********
as
@Tod ********
said, some offices do, some dont.

when doing the "change of visa type" from a touristic entry to a 90-days Non-O Visa inside Thailand, the official police order requires proof that the 800K deposit came from abroad ! If you don't believe me, just visit the Immigration website intended for the "change of visa type" and download number 9 of the list
Tod *********
@Matthew ********
which doesn't in any way negate my statement that Bangkok and a few other offices do require you prove the funds came from abroad into a Thai bank account in your name only.
Rob *******
@Matthew ********
... Tod's giving sound advice, you say the majority does not so abviously some do so, best for the OP to check with his local IO to be sure his IO is not in the minority.
Tod *********
SOME offices (like Bangkok and a few others) require that you transfer the 800K from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only to apply for the initial 90 day Non-O visa

Other offices don't require it, so you're going to have to check and see if there's a "proof of funds origin" policy at the office you're using for the Non-O visa.
