Having been to Thailand a number of times, I’ve always had cash with me just in case I’m asked at Immigration.

That said, my next trip is split between Thailand and Vietnam so my question is when I return from Vietnam to Thailand, will I need the equivalent of 20,000THB again? 🤷🏼‍♂️
Answer summary
When re-entering Thailand from Vietnam, it is generally advisable to carry the equivalent of 20,000 THB in cash, although many travelers report they have never been asked to show it. While the official requirement exists as proof of funds, some commenters note they were not questioned during their entries, suggesting that enforcement might vary. Nevertheless, having the required cash is considered a safe precaution to avoid any potential issues at immigration.

What do you think this requirement depends on where you’re flying from? Come on man use some basic common sense

If you look like a normal person then Thai Immigration probably won't hassle you. If you look like a bum, Thai Immigration will try every maneuver possible to deny you entry. The lesson here - look like a person that the Immigration people would welcome into their country, not like someone they are glad is leaving.

Yes, you’re entering the country again. I always just take a stash of “emergency cash” in an envelope with me, and redeposit it when I get back home. It’s primarily there in case I somehow lose my wallet/phone/whatever and need some quick cash. I’ve never needed it, but it’s nice that it’s there.

I’ve been in and out of thailand 30 times in the last 2 years..

Was asked about money once when funnily enough I didn’t have a baht on me 🤣😂🤣😂

Offered to show my bank and it just wasn’t necessary. Quick explanation that I use card for most transactions was fine.

Love the number of comments stating they have not been asked. Thats OK until you paying 50,000 Baht for your ticket home

No you will not be allowed to a neighbouring country, only the one you hold a passport for.

Glennstev Repairman I was pulled at immigration and ended up in the back office. There was a Brit and Philipino there. The Brit had been denied entry after arriving from.Vietnam and was told the UK. The Philippino from Cambodia and the IO said no as it was dangerous..Me, let me in and told to get the correct visa which I now have and yes I had 20,000 in cash in four different currencies!

Been coming in and out of Thailand at least 8-10 times a year for my job, besides corona years, so well and truly over 150 times in the last 20 years and have never been asked about cash once. Maybe I'm lucky?

Jack Evans

1. Passport with a minimum of 6-months validity

2. TDAC

3. Proof if your accommodation

4. Proof of Onward travel within 60-days (you won't get a 30-day extension)

If questioned always maintain your here for tourism purposes.

Immigration denied entry to just under 30,000 people within the first 6-months.

Good luck mate and if in Bangkok I'll shout you a ฿45 pint at the old English pub

Jack Evans Carry Proof of Your Intentions: When entering, be prepared to show:

*** a return- or onward-flight ticket out of Thailand within the time you will get stamped in

*** Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (20,000 THB per person is the official requirement, but more is better). I can be equivalent of cash in another major currency. Credit cards are NOT accepted as cash proof!

***Proof of accommodation for a few first nights or an itinerary of your planned trip.
