I get different answers from Immigration!!!:

I have completed one full year and just received my next year extension. Unfortunately, Bangkok Bank would not give me the documentation I needed so that I could move to the 65,000 per month rather than tying up my ฿800,000. Moving to the next 12 months, do I need to keep the entire 800,000 in the bank this next full year? I have read a couple places that I could use 400,000. Does immigration need to indicate that somewhere? Confused.
Answer summary
The original poster is confused about the banking requirements for their Thai visa extension. After receiving their one-year extension, they learned from different sources that they might be able to maintain only 400,000 THB in the bank instead of the required 800,000 THB. Multiple commentators clarified that generally, the 800,000 THB must be kept in the bank for a certain duration around the extension application but suggested that after three months, it can drop to 400,000 THB as long as it is back to 800,000 THB before the next renewal. There is substantial discussion regarding issues faced with Bangkok Bank and recommendations to consider changing banks for better service.

The banks, with the blessings from the government, would love to have 800K from each bloke wanting a retirement visa. This rakes in hundreds of billions of baht for the Thai economy

The interest you get is 0.5% and the banks charge 4-5% if you borrow.

In essence, banks prefer you keep the 800K with them.

Keep the 800k in the bank and dont worry about it. My first year extension it showed 2 of my 65k transfers as local transfers. Wise takes your money and puts it in different banks. They transfered 2 of my 65k from kasikorn , showed up local. Went for extension and was denied, I had to do a lot of running around trying to get the (letter) . I ended up getting an agent to get it fixed.

Lots of confusing and bad info here. I did it. You first have to comply with getting the 2nd year extension approved. Your 800k has to be in the bank 2 months before applying and stay for 3 months after.

You should start depositing your 65k monthly before you renew for the 2nd extension that way you have your full 12 monthly international deposits. Keep in mind the deposit only has to be made monthly but then you can spend every penny on living expenses.

Check with your local imm office and get guidance as every office may want something different. I would also use a different bank for the 65k deposits

I would be curious, what reason they gave for not providing you with the documentation you needed for immigration?! That might be very helpful for other group members too.

They gave me no problem with that, but far too many problems with everything else.

I switched to K Bank and what a pleasant change that had been.

David Walley I asked about getting a letter showing that my deposits were and international transfer. I use wise whim has now switched their methods.

Bkk bank said they would not confirm the transactions. Wise is now using k bank for their deposits. Then it goes to bkk bank which is seen as a domestic transfer. So it doesn't work for the 65k.

I have opened a k bank account and will begin 65k their.

Bangkok Bank man, I’m telling ya!!

I don’t know a) Who the hell they think they are! And b) why ANY expat would bank with them! They create rules of their own that are not consistent with Thai immigration or KYC regulations that so drastically complicate an already complicated process.
Geoffrey ******
Geoffrey ******
David Walley Their bank, their rules. Just like immigration officers making their own rules. Did you have any idea the total in unpaid medical bills by expats was last year. Probably not. They want the money in the account for emergencies in case you have medical issues. Never understand why when foreigners come to live in another country many tend to bitch and moan about everything. If you not happy with the bank, then change, or better yet go back to your country. We are guests here and as guests, we need to follow their laws. Stop bitching and enjoy what time you have left. I am quite sure Thailand wouldn't miss you even a little bit if you left. Get a life.

It is a two step process to get your monthly documents at Bangkok Bank. First you get the last 13 months of statements, then you get the relevant deposit detail printouts for the last 13 months, then there is no question about counting right. Then you take all that to immigration. I've been doing it with Bangkok Bank main branch for the last 10 years.

First, if you have the Bangkok Bank app, you can download the last 12 month's statements from the app. After you open the app, click on the 3 little circles in the lower right corner labeled more services. Then request it under the Banking/Request account statement. Next, if you have been using Wise to make your tansfers, and I just went through this with my immigration office, provide the following and see if they will accept the paper trail of the transfer. 1. Updated bank book + copy of every page

2. Bank statement for each month – highlight transfers 3. For each transfer that shows DEP TRF FR E-CH instead of a FOREIGN T/T code provide the following: Transfer Confirmation from Wise showing that you sent the transfer to Bangkok Bank but it was paid through Kasikorn Bank; Credit Advice from your Bangkok Bank showing that funds went from Kasikorn Bank to Bangkok Bank; FEP from Kasikorn International Service Dept. Not every Kasikorn Bank has such a desk and this must be done in person as you have to pay 200 thb for the letter.

Margarita L Houston I had that happen 5 years ago, foreign transfer showed up coming local from Kasikorn, what a mess it was. everything I did they wanted more. finally had to get an agent involved. I now have the LTR and dont have to worry about it. but that first year extension was a nightmare

Mark Faught I understand. It took me two weeks to figure out what was going on and what documents I needed to show immigration that, as far as I knew, and based on the transfer details I set up at Wise, I made an International Funds transfer to my Bangkok Bank account. Wise chose to route it through Kasikorn. Fortunately, I had an immigration officer that was willing to listen and could see from the documents I submitted, that it was an international funds transfer. Thanks Wise!

John Pollins What do they want the letter to say? If they want the letter to say that they were international transfers, and if they came through Wise, some of them may not show up on your statement as International Transfers and Bangkok Bank can't say they were, thus the paper trail. However, you also need to provide a letter from the bank that shows your bank balance the day you go to immigration, so is that what they want?

From Bangkok Bank you need to request 12 months of detailed deposits. You'll get 12 pieces of paper with each monthly deposit; assuming you do it in one lump and not a bunch of small deposits.

I have done this consistently for nearly 10 years. You need to allow the bank a few days if local, or at least a week if remote be located from your home

branch.

400,000 (or 45,000 per mo) is usually for marriage visa. Double that for retirement visa.

Also, you may need to provide the source; SSA Benefit Letter, VA benefit letter. Have those interpreted and signed by a legal entity (usually attorney) and submit that ad proof of sustainable income.

Change banks while you can. After the 800K has seasoned 3 months after this extension, then move 400k to another bank and a couple of days after that move the remaining 400k over if you wish, but be sure to top up to a 800k 2 months before your next extension. You'll need the statements from both banks. You didn't definitively mention it, but, had you been depositing 65k+ into Bangkok Bank over the last year?

To my understanding the current rules are that it has to stay at or above 800,000 for the first 3 months of the extension then it can drop to 400,000 for 6 months but must be back to 800,000 for 3 months before you renew. Best check these details with Immigration if you want to drop below 800,000 and they do change the rules from time to time. I understand that you can use multiple Thai bank accounts for the 800,000 but it might add complication so moving banks and having statments of the old and new accounts to verify the money as allways in a Thai bank should be possible. I use Kasikorn bank and have never had any problems.

When you have done your EOS you need to fulfill the requirement for the next 10 months.

3 months you need to keep 800k, than not drop under 400k.

At the same time you need to show 65k each months for 12 months before submitting the next EOS based on monthly transfers. To be safe, maintain the 800k up after 10 months, so in case of an issue, you can apply for 800k deposit next EOS.

I heard about this

I heard that some bank locations want the ฿800k in there

Up to 3 months prior to your renewal date

Up to 4 months after your renewal date

So in essence you get 7 months to do whatever you want with your money

Now im sure some locations will say it can’t go below a certain threshold and others just want to see it in there for the expected amount of time

Good luck trying to understand it…me personally I just gave up and just leave it in there
