TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for maintaining 800,000 baht in your bank account before applying for a visa extension in Thailand can vary. Generally, for a retirement visa extension, you must keep the amount for at least 3 months following your last extension. Some immigration offices may allow for a 2-month period, while others may require it to be at 3 months, particularly for subsequent extensions. However, at some locations, applicants may only need to show the balance for 1 month.

Applying from london, they’re happy with just one month :)

that has nothing to do with an extension which you can only get from an immigration office. You're talking about a visa

you’re totally right and I’m totally stupid for not reading it correctly!

At least - from my experience!

It depends where you are. Officially its 2 months before but some offices want it 3 months before, particularly for 2nd and subsequent extensions

best to check with that immigration office

For an extension based on retirement, the account needs to have been at 800,000 for 3 months after you received your previous extension. Then it can never drop below 400,000 for the rest of the year, and must be back to 800,000 as of 2 months before you apply for your next extension.

thanks for this. I read somewhere on Siam legal it had changed to three months before I extend. Have you heard anything?

the Siam Legal website is full of incorrect or outdated information

there's only one immigration office that requires 3 months and that's only for when you're converting from tourist to retirement, not for extensions. That's the Pattaya office.
