There has been no repercussions when I have travelled OS from Samui but friends of mine were fined recently? Has there been a change in this?

IF they were indeed stamped in for FIVE years when they entered on the OX visa they should NOT have been fined at all.
I wonder if they were mistakenly stamped in only for a year (or even worst on a free stamp entry) on their previous entry stamp

They were trying to fly out, Immigration referred them to Thai Police near immigration, fined for overstay! Understand if they were on a 12 month visa but they’re on an OX 5 year visa! No overstay at all! There was a notation on their visa about health insurance with a date of

if you could get a copy or photo of those 6500 Baht Fines Receipt from Suvarnabhumi Airport Departure immigration would be great to get a better understanding of what is going on and if it truly has any relation to holding a Non-OX 5-Year Visa.... 🙏🏻Jim ********

at Immigration, Suvarnabhumi! Before they flew! A new one for me too, I have seen a receipt though🙄 cash only not a great indicator though! Anyway, I’ve got a hard copy and a digital copy of my current health insurance just in case, probably not a bad idea to have it anyway….Reply to

Hi Jim I always re-new my insurance but have never been asked to prove it. I do carry a copy just incase one day they decide to ask :) No idea who would have fined them, Insurance is part of permission to hold and enter. One would think they would have been turned away.

AFAIK there's no requirement to tell the immigration office that your policy is renewed, BUT you do need to be insured for the duration of the 5 year entry stamp you got from that visa and have proof of that if asked

they were fined by Bangkok Airport officials at Suvarnbhumi Airport when leaving for Sri Lanka! It all sounded a bit suss I thought, I’ve left the country twice and had never been asked for proof! I saw the receipt, 6500 thb each……it was all very strange as I have left Thailand for Australia twice this last year, no drama….Tod *********

Hmm, I am not saying it didn't happen but it sure sounds suspect to me 😮 I have NEVER heard of anyone being fined when leaving the country for anything other than overstaying your stamp
The people who stamp you out at passport control aren't set up to check any of that (proof of funds, insurance, etc)
Even the people who stamp you back IN when you enter the country on an OX visa don't ask for it 😕
They just stamp you in for the same expiration date you got when you first entered the country on the visa
