TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for proof of onward travel when flying to Thailand under the 60-day visa exemption varies by airline. While some airlines may not ask for it, others may require you to show it before boarding. It's advised to check with your airline directly and consider purchasing a 'throwaway' ticket if you're concerned. Generally, immigration in Thailand does not commonly ask for onward travel proof unless there's a history of extensive entries using visa exemptions.

Technicall yes. I get randomly asked whenever flying.

Its really hit or miss. You could be asked by the airline before you board or by immigration in Thailand, although it's rare I've been asked in the past. If youre concerned just buy a cheap travel from Thailand to one of the neighbouring countries.

Nobody can answer that question, as it differs by airline and by Check in person. To ease any anxiety or potential questions, buy a throw away ticket.

I got asked yesterday at Perth airport check in. I am in and out of there 1-2 times per month for past three years and that was the first time. Jetstar .

Generally Yes best to as the airline may not let you board without it

The risk is up to you

It is up to your airline if they let you do boarding or not without an visa. Better ask them

You might wanna actually state your nationality 😕

90+ countries get free stamp (visa exempt) 60 day entry, this is the list

Whether you're asked for onward travel or not flying into thailand free stamp (visa exempt) 60 day entry is an AIR CARRIER policy more than anything else.

As a rule you won't be asked for onward travel when you stamp in to thailand at passport control (not unless you have an extensive entry/stay history here on free stamps which is when they seem to ask people to prove they're leaving within the days they will stamp in for)

CHECK with your air carrier and if they say you can fly without onward travel you should be okay once you land here

thank you. I’m an American.

then as you can see you would get in on a 60 day visa exempt entry.

If your airline will let you fly without onward travel entering without a visa to thailand you're fine once you get here

yes. Seems like it’s at the discretion of the airline. I didn’t get asked last year but I can’t be sure.
