Do I need a tourist visa for Thailand and is using a fake onward ticket a good idea?

Hi, I am planning another visit to Thailand. The last time I entered the country I was told that I need a tourist visa from now on.

Of course I also need information about the flight etc. for the application. As I don't want to risk being stuck with the costs if my application is rejected, I came up with the idea of providing an (fake) onward ticket. Is this a daft idea?

Best regards

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about the need for a tourist visa for their upcoming visit to Thailand and discusses the idea of providing a fake onward ticket to avoid financial risks in case of visa rejection. The community responds with tips about the visa application process, the rarity of visa denial, and alternative options such as hiring a service to ensure safe entry through immigration. Concerns about past entry history and its impact on future entries are also discussed.

Very rare that a tourist visa would be denied as long as you supply the required documentation. Whether you need a tourist visa would be very subjective. Almost all don’t. And certainly isn’t going to help much if you have a questionable entry history.

if you're really worried you can save the money on a visa and put it towards a "safe entry" service with an agent. They'll meet you at the airport and make sure you get into Thailand through an arrangement with immigration. Starts at 2000 baht and goes up to 4000 or more if your past is really bad. They'll take all your passport information first and send it to their contacts at the airport before giving you the final price that's 100% guaranteed entry.

I’ve already been questioned twice while entering Thailand. Last time the immigration officer told me that I will now need a tourist visa.

If I apply and will be granted my visa, will I then still have issues as soon as I enter Thailand? What do you think?

Did the IO specifically say Tourist Visa or was the requirement to get the proper visa for your visit?

I don’t know your entry history but it’s super rare that someone would be questioned with a valid visa. It’s up to an individual immigration officer to determine whether to let you in or not so it’s impossible to say for sure.

It has happened in the past that someone with a valid visa has been denied entry but it would be an exceptional case were it to happen. And if so it’s probably because they’re on some form of Interpol or other list of persons unwanted in Thailand.

Aww man, I hate that uncertainty. Is it true that they then send you straight back home?

If it gets to that state then yes. Very very rare that it happens. But it could. Usually it’s the airline that has to foot the bill but it could be you that has to do it.

It only ever happens in fraction of cases. Probably less than 0.01% of times (a figure made up by me). Normal tourists need not worry. Someone with a “suspect” entry history may have issues.

, you don't need a visa for Thailand. You can visit for 60 days without a visa. Thanks

@Abu *******
sure you don’t need a visa. But you can get a tourist visa visa and it’s good for multiple entries for 60 days at a time and extensions. It’s good for 180 days.
Abu ********
@Jim *******
, yes if you want to stay 180 days. But you have to leave Thailand every 90 days and back. It's not convenient and expensive too. It's better to avail 60 days visa exemption and can take 30 days extension. After that leave and back to get another 60+ 30. Thanks.

@Abu *******
you need to research what a Thai tourist visa is.

Just look up TDAC thailand fill out the form three days before arriving no fee for accepted countries, forget all the other info you get, its the only information you need

@Andrew ************
What does that have to do with a warning from an immigration officer for entering Thailand too many times visa exempt?
Stuart *********
Not daft at all. People use them all the time. The sites offer a real PNR for about 12 usd.
