Hi. Has anyone gotten a Thai tourist visa at Vientiane recently? I’m on my way on the night bus now and I forgot to print out a copy of a hotel booking. I don’t remember if that was necessary or not. Anyone know?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the necessity of having a hotel booking printed out to obtain a Thai tourist visa in Vientiane, Laos. According to recent comments, it appears that no hotel booking is required, as one user successfully obtained a visa without needing to present proof of funds or a hotel reservation.

For those doing a visa run, The flight plus bus is good as u spend less time traveling, but because of the flight schedule, by the time u arrive in Vientiane it’s too late to hand in the visa information so it means you need to spend an extra night in Vientiane or an extra night in udon/Nong khai.

The bus options (plus tuktuk to and from

border) usually gets you to the embassy in time to hand in your visa so you only need to spend one night in vientianne, not two.

Both flight and bus have their different pros so it depends what is more averse to you. Spending time on a bus or spending an extra night in Vientiane. 😉

There are two airlines that fly the route, Air Asia and Nok Air. 3 flights per day. Both are budget airlines and can be super cheap. Like looking now there are several flights for 485B including all the taxes (the base fare is 210B- yes that is $6 for a flight ticket) which even with the 200B for the minibus is actually cheaper than the bus which I think is 800-900. I usually pay more than that, more like 1,000 all in each way but I'll pay an extra 100-200B for a 1hr flight vs a 12hr bus journey.

the flight is from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani. This city is 50km south of Nong Khai. There is a minibus at Udon airport that goes direct to the border at Nong Khai 1hr, 200B. It's a 1hr flight + 1hr minibus vs 12 hours on a bus, so many prefer it. It is usually a little more expensive than the bus but not necessarily by much and if you get a good sale the flight can even be cheaper.

That would be for Nong Khai as well?

“New kid in town”. 😊

Also consider flying to Udon Thani which is 1hr from the border by direct minibus from the airport. It's not much more expensive, and much quicker (1hr flight).

am. It’s very comfortable and includes blanket and some snacks. I usually order online which costs an extra 100 bhat usually but u can also buy a ticket at terminal 2 of arcade bus station. Direct Chiangmai to Nong Khai.
