Can someone who's recently applied for a dependent DTV through the London embassy for a child confirm if they would need an ACRO? I've been trying to read through all the previous posts and im getting conflicting info. I have a 15 month old baby, can I use my own ACRO with a sponsorship letter? Thank you!
Answer summary
The question revolves around whether a child applying for a dependent DTV visa in Thailand requires an ACRO (Application for Criminal Records Office Certificate). Most respondents agree that children do not need their own ACRO; parents can submit their own ACRO along with a sponsorship letter. However, there are conflicting opinions, with some stating that the embassy's responses can be generic and unclear, leading to confusion about requirements.

Its so difficult to get any clarity on this because again, there are conflicting views on this. Someone quite rightly said the embassy staff are just providng generic answers so i dont think we'll get the clarity from them. Unless anyone who has applied for a dependent and got approved can verify and confirm, I think for the sake not wanting to lose the visa fee and cause unnecessary delays, I'm just going to get an ACRO for my child just in case.

I completely agree! This is exactly what i’ve done today and ordered my son’s ACRO. £70 feels like a small cost to avoid having to have 1 month of delays later

No need to get a DTV for a child. No overstay fines for under 14's.

"In addition, a certificate of criminal record clearance will be required as a mandatory supporting document for all DTV applicants. The police clearance certificate must be issued within six months from the date of submission (e.g., the ACRO certificate or the Irish police certificate). Dependents under 16 years old are allowed to submit a police clearance certificate of the primary DTV holders"

thank you where did you get this info?

The Embassy do not tend to offer nuanced responses to questions, they copy and paste text that applies to the subject area but do not give a considered answer to your specific question. Did they say for example, yes you need an ACRO for your 10 year old? Or did they reply with the generic response that all applicants need to supply an ACRO?

Cover letter plus your own ACRO should suffice as it is true that each applicant must supply an ACRO - it's a required field on the portal - however as children are not eligible for an ACRO, the parent's / primary DTV applicant's must surely be the correct document to attach.

Children are able to get an ACRO. I have ordered one, the guidance isn’t very clear on whether you should use yours or your child’s but for us i’d rather pay the £70 than risk massive delays if we get told to apply for one later

We got the same email as above from the London Embassy, I asked if my children age 10 & 5 needed an ACRO and they said all applicants needed one so we have applied for there’s as well as didn’t want to come to applying the. To be told we needed one and have to wait another 30 days

I did a dependent DTV for my (then 16 month old) daughter in August. I had no idea they would introduce this police check. Having done some research and followed some case studies through this group, U16s will be able to use the Parent's Police check for their application. I always believe the cover letter is the best tool to hang everything together.

I had the exact same question about my 6 year old! They don’t need one just attach yours to your application and add on the cover letter that you’ve attached yours 😊

This is the email I got. They have also removed their wording on their website saying you can use the main dtv holders acro. The fact they have said is now required, I took this as all applicants (including all dependents) must each have their own. However this is not very clear. We have applied for our children’s acro’s (age 8 weeks and 2 years) and just going to submit these to be sure as we are due to go next month and don’t want a delay and 90% sure that’s what we need to do lol

I know!! Little boy has never so much as stolen a sweet 🫠I asked this exact question in another group a few weeks back and was laughed out of the chat. 4 weeks on and we’ve got our ACROs and now got to wait again🤦🏼‍♀️

have you had confirmation of this? I emailed the London embassy recently and they emailed and confirmed all applicants must supply one, including dependents.

i’ve not had confirmation direct from them but spoke to a few other people who have applied. I think it depends on age too because a 6 year old or baby can’t get a criminal record and have been told by others to add mine or my partner’s to the application. I guess dependent can cover a lot of things including a spouse too. But it’s not very clear!

I suppose when they said all applicants including dependents must supply one, that is technically correct. The question is, can you supply the primary for the dependent. Would you mind emailing back to ask for that clarity?
