Do any 7-11's accept payment via PromptPay/QR code? Every time I've asked, they've always said no.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that 7-Eleven stores in Thailand do not accept payments via PromptPay or QR codes. They mainly accept payments through cash, credit cards, and their own True Wallet app, which seems to be preferred due to company ownership ties. Other stores like Mini Big C and Lotus do accept such payments, indicating a difference in policies.

So did you manage to find out if you can pay in Thailand with prompt pay or QRcode pay?

Not possible at 7-11, but possible almost everywhere else.

If you asked a Thai girl on a date, and she said "no", would you then come and ask us if she would go on a date with you? What a donut!
Durgesh ********
As I know they only accept cash and credit card payments. Some 7-11 also asked me to have minimum 300 THB purchase to use credit cards.
Moon ******
Family mart does

Can you use SnapScan anywhere?
Trudy *********
Ridiculous why they don’t accept bank QR codes, prompt pay 😡 winds me up every time as in my area most
****
have removed the ATM’s pfffftttt, 😀 I’m still happy to be here though
Rei ***********
You asked them already, why you asking here?
David *********
Just tell him you wanna scan and pay. The qr will be generated in the credit card terminal. If you ask for promptpay or qr, the answer is probaby no.
Tony *********
@David ********
no that won't happen. 7-Eleven do not accept scanned payments of any kind except from True Wallet.
Daniel **********
No

If every time you have asked and they said NO, then what makes you think anyone here could change their policy? Just asking.
Tony *********
7-Eleven does not accept payment from QR codes nor does it take debit cards. You can use true wallet. I've never understood why 7-Eleven contrary to most retailers don't accept QR codes. I can even pay the guy on the street for noodle soup using a QR code!

@Tony ********
Bacause the owner owns both 7-11 and True (Wallet).

@Frank-Steven **********
oh i didnt know that. But what about Makro? At one time they would only accept true wallet but then they also allowed QR codes from internet banking apps. That was the only reason I had true wallet at the time because I did a lot of shopping at Makro. I gave it up when true wanted me to undergo some kind of interview to verify my identity to continue using true wallet and I couldn't be bothered.

@Tony ********
Makro is also the same (majority) owner. But luckily at least Makro accepts QR code (PromptPay) payments.

I always use True Money Wallet at

Why don't they accept debit cards or PromptPay? Makes no sense 🤷‍♂️
John **********
@Jake ******
I'd imagine it's because they don't have a live connection to the bank. Same reason you can't use debit cards on a flight for example
Ivan ************
@John *********
it's hardly that, even street and market stall vendors accept PromptPay now. It's because they want to promote True Wallet (same parent company) and their own app.
Daniel **********
@Ivan ***********
as usual.....you are right.👍
John **********
@Ivan ***********
debit cards are not promptpay
Markus **********
@Jake ******
good question :) go ask them and see if you can make some sense about it :)
Dimitri ********
It's not an answer to your question... But they do accept Visa and Mastercard. What can be easier?
Jake *******

@Dimitri *******
Every time you use your credit card or debit card, you risk credit card theft. PromptPay has zero risks. It's the ideal payment method. I don't understand why nearly every business in Thailand accepts it except for the 40,000 7-11's nationwide.

@Jake ******
credit cards with a chip are contactless and there is no more risk than any where else in the world. I use mine every time I go to 7-Eleven or anywhere I can because I get 3% back on international travel charges.
Neil ********
@Jake ******
is it still swipe type payment with credit cards not contactless?
Markus **********
@Dimitri *******
most cards in Thailand are only atm/debit cards which they not accept. So it's actually not that easy :)
Dimitri ********
@Markus *********
I never tried cards from Thai banks in the 7-11, only foreign debit cards. But my Krungsri Visa card and Bangkok bank Mastercard (debit) work fine in gasstations...
Markus **********
@Dimitri *******
thai cards are a bit different what we are use to but yes your cards works fine it it's a credit card not atm as the Thai banks give to you.
Dimitri ********
@Markus *********
my cards are not credit cards but debet cards.
Ayush ********
Mini Big C and lotus accept Prompt pay and QR,
Brandon ************
I believe they only accept through the 7-11 app and true wallet.

But I'm fairly sure both are only available to Thais.
Frank ********
@Brandon ***********
. I can pay with TrueMoney Wallet at Lazada.
Garrett ***********
100% can't use the app, not sure about true wallet but probably can't either.
