Can one come to Thailand on visa exemption although there is brand new unused tourist visa in his passport? This trip will be 2 weeks only so my friend doesn't want to use 2 months one (planning on going again before it expires). Thank you in advance for all your useful advices.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires whether they can enter Thailand using a visa exemption while having a brand new, unused tourist visa in their passport. They wish to stay for only two weeks, opting not to use their two-month tourist visa as they plan to return before its expiration. Responses indicate that it is ultimately up to the immigration officer's discretion at passport control. It has been noted that having a visa sticker in the passport may affect this decision, as the officer may notice it during processing.

Thank you for taking your time to reply. It is a sticker in his passport.

is it a visa sticker or eVisa PDF?

only what your friend can do is ask to the immigration officer at passport control upon entering. but be aware the officer doesn’t have to do that. They may just say no.

if he has visa sticker in the passport, most likely the officer would see it when she/he goes through the passport pages.

in case it’s eVisa PDF format, we have reports like this. Those who had SETV eVisa PDF didn’t show it at passport control, hoping they’d use next entry. they found that their visas had been already voided when they attempted to enter with supposed-to-be-unused-SETV again later.

it totally is at discretion of the officer who would handle his entry.
