TLDR : Answer Summary
The question addresses whether it is possible to change a visa type from a Tourist Visa (TV) to another type at immigration in Thailand, or if the individual must exit and re-enter the country for the change. One comment specifies that changing a Tourist Visa (TR) is possible, but mentions that the Special Tourist Visa (STV) cannot be changed.

Which tourist visa? A TR can be changed, but not STV

James Jun. There's no visa category of TV. A tourist visa is either a TR or an STV. You need to specify which you are on to get the correct answer what you are seeking

not sure about that. But I think immigration is pretty lenient these days as they know people can’t leave without quarantine on arrival.

well being lenient would allow you to change inside the country vs saying no and you having to leave. Yes it may take some work on your part to do, but not having to leave then quarantine on your way back in is being very lenient IMO

Yes you are right but they were not interested in my change .... rules are to change reason for non O from retirement to thai wife your visa must expire within 45 days or you have to fly out ... I ended up paying a huge backhander and got it changed TIT

IF you are on an extension of stay based on retirement already from a Non-OA, AND you are getting an extension of stay based on marriage, it should be easy to convert it - assuming you are NOT on your first extension of stay.

Yes Benjamin that’s what I thought ... immigration flatly refused . I have had multiple extensions on the same visa ...

Visa / extension must expire within 45 days - that is what immigration told me ... I paid under table and they did it for me ...
