Quick question 400k for 1 year non o married extension. Can this be in a thai bank savings account or does it have to be a current?
Thx
Answer summary
Yes, the 400,000 THB required for a 1-year Non-O marriage visa extension can be held in a Thai bank savings account. It must be in your name and maintained in the account for at least 2 months prior to application. While the funds can be in a savings account, it is essential that they are not tied up in a fixed deposit account that restricts access. Always ensure that the balance does not dip below 400,000 THB during the seasoning period and maintain it actively until your visa extension is approved.

Yes, it absolutely can be in a **Thai bank savings account**—in fact, a standard savings account (*Aom Sub*) is the most common and widely preferred account type used for the 1-year Non-O marriage extension.
You do **not** need a current account (which in Thailand usually involves checkbooks and does not pay interest).
However, while a standard savings account is perfect, there are a few strict rules you must follow regarding the account setup and the 400,000 THB to ensure your extension isn't rejected:
### The Critical Bank Account Rules
* **The Account Must Be in Your Name Only:** It must be a sole account under your name. Joint accounts (*"And/Or"* accounts shared with your spouse) are generally rejected or face extreme scrutiny by Immigration because the legal presumption is that you only own 50% of the funds.
* **The 2-Month Seasoning Rule:** The 400,000 THB must be sitting in that account for at least **2 full months** before the day you submit your application. It cannot dip below 400,000 THB for even a single day during that window.
* **Keep It Active Up to the Final Approval:** Because marriage extensions are sent to regional headquarters for a 30-day "under consideration" period, do not touch or draw the balance below 400,000 THB until the final 1-year stamp is firmly secured in your passport.
* **Watch Out for Fixed-Term/Fixed-Deposit Accounts:** While standard savings accounts are flawless, if you use a "Fixed Deposit" account (*Pracham*), ensure it allows instant withdrawal without penalties that lock the funds completely, as some Immigration offices reject rigid, locked fixed-term accounts.
### A Quick Warning on Recent Bank Changes
Be aware that some major banks (specifically certain branches of **Bangkok Bank**) have recently implemented strict internal anti-money laundering policies regarding visa letters. If the 400,000 THB has only been in the account for *exactly* 2 months, the bank may require you to sign a temporary hold form to issue the official immigration confirmation letter. Keeping the funds in your savings account longer than the minimum 2 months helps bypass these newer banking hurdles smoothly.
Only businesses use what westerners call current accounts. Here in Thailand you may have your money in a Savings Account or an Instant Access Fixed Term Deposit account, in your sole name
I just have the money in my everyday Thai bank acct there is always my main money for my retirement proof and never go below have not had any issues for last 3 years ….
I'm not quite sure I understand what you're asking but . .. ...
Are you asking can you use a "fixed deposit" account for proof of fund or if it has to be a straight savings?
Thailand has two types of fixed/term deposit accounts one is accepted and one is not..
On one type of fixed/term deposit account you can access the funds anytime (even though you get a penalty or lose the accrued interest).. <- this one CAN be used for proof of funds
On another type of fixed/term deposit account the principal is frozen and you cannot access it for the length of the term of deposit <- this one CANNOT be used for proof of funds
Whether you use a straight savings account or a fixed deposit account it still has to be in your name only and the 400K baht has to be seasoned in the account for 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension
Sorry if that didn't answer your question, I messaged you about this post as well.
