TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can legally move to Thailand if you are married to a Thai national, but you will need to apply for the appropriate visa. Specifically, you must obtain a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa, followed by a one-year extension of stay. To qualify, you must provide proof of marriage (registered in Thailand or overseas), and meet certain financial requirements, such as having 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account or a minimum monthly income of 40,000 THB. Many commenters discuss their experiences and advice on navigating these requirements.

Clearly living in paradise and getting laid all the time does nothing for the attitude of all of you senile crusty old farts. If all you're here to do is be an asshat and complain, you can see yourself out. People want advice and all you guys can do is be the geriatric dumpster fires you were in your home country
you can stay more if you know what you doing if you prepare to leave the kingdom for a couple of days

You can apply for a suitable visa once married yes but you could also just apply for a retirement visa instead if youโre over 50 and live there with no need to marry at all.
Correct! Actually, there are many foreigners married to Thai women, who prefer to be on the "1-year Extension of Stay based on retirement", simply because the renewing process is much easier, needing less documentation. They do so despite the financial proof being double than the 400.000.- THB
actually if you keep copies of your original extension application, all you have to do is update the TM seven and go to the ampour for a marriage certificate verifying that you are still married. Other than that I just copied the same documents. I use one when I initially applied. ๏ฟผ
not to mention the not having to marry someone part!

Don't forget if you have a marriage visa and things go wrong and you divorce the visa becomes invalid on the day you get divorced so you have to leave the country
well, a divorce takes some time, sometimes up to half a year or longer. So somebody who is experiencing a divorce process, has plenty of time to re-arrange his Extension of Stay. He could stock up his bank account to 800.000.- THB, season it for two months and apply on Immigration for the "change of reason" from marriage to retirement (he must be over 50 years old to do so)
no, it doesn't. First of, you don't have a visa - the visa expired when you entered - you are on an "extended stay permit". And this stay permit must be applied for every year. Absolutely NO visa runs neccessary, because you don't have a visa

Of course you can move here and get a non O marriage visa via the Thai embassy in your country first. Or come here on TR and get non O here. Lots of paperwork. You have to renew visa once a year in thailand plus 90 day reports .. and keep ยฃ10k in a Thai Bank account.
you don't "renew a visa" every year. All you do is renewing your yearly "stay permit". That 90-days Non-Imm-O visa becomes invalid upon entry, and even Thai Immigration cannot "extend an invalid visa", not even when they, in their bad English, call it "visa extension"

Yes you can. If you wish to stay in Thailand based on being married to a Thai national you must basically:
1 Have been married in Thailand, or have your overseas marriage registered in Thailand.
2 Have
*****
0 baht in a Thai bank account in your name, or have an income of
*****
baht per month.
3 Apply for a 90 day non O Visa.
4 Apply for a 12 month extension of stay (indefinitely as long as you satisfy the requirements).
There's more to each of these steps, check at your local immigration office for details.
Probably because the authorities know all about fake marriages so they make the requirements more arduous. If I was stupid enough to get married in Thailand, I'd still stick with the DTV
haha I have thai wife and a child and itโs harder for me to get a visa than someone doing a cooking class ๐คญ๐คญ๐คญ

Anyone can legally move to Thailand, marriage is not one of the requirements. Plenty of single guys legally move here because they enjoy the company of many women, not just one ๐

in order to stay in Thailand on the reason married to a Thai wife, you need the 90-days Non-imm-o family visa, which must be followed by the 1-year Extension of Stay Permit. You need to prove either 400.000.- THB in a Thai bank account in your sole name, or an affidavit of income from your embassy over a minimum of an income over 40.000.- THB per month
i believe thats 40k+ a month and 400,000 in bank and you have to be over 55 i think....and you need to factor in compulsary health ins now as well think maybe 20k a month
itโs not 40 K a month and 400,000 in the bank. You can only do the 40 K a month after your first year itโs the same as a retirement visa. Only the amounts are smaller.
Your question doesn't really make sense. Being married in and of itself doesn't mean anything. You need a visa that allows you to live in Thailand if you want to move. One way to qualify for a visa is to be married to a Thai, but there are many other things involved, including proof of funds and such
iโm from the US. I have a non-o Visa based on marriage and I have to do 90 day recording and apply for Ext every year just like a retirement visa only with more requirements. ๏ฟผ please inform me how I can get away with not having a visa just because Iโm married to a Thai lady.
