TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the 'Smart Visa' and its feasibility for those applying as 'Medical and Wellbeing' visitors. Participants express uncertainty over the application success rates and discuss existing alternatives such as the non-immigrant visa for medical treatment. There's mention of concerns about how obtaining a different visa might impact existing private medical insurance in the UK.

IMO, I really don't see many folks applying for such a visa.

The only visa I know about for medical reasons (if it is still around) is a non-immigrant Visa for medical treatment. 90 days. Requires proof that they’re receiving treatment from a licensed medical facility.

Richard Payne Individual investor that opens up a hospital or a welness center for a minimum investment of 20 million baht and/or his executive staff working within that company that get paid a minimum of 200,000 baht per month. The ones that do not make that threshold can use non B visas and work permits.

All the information is available on the UK Thai Embassy's website, as well as on BOI's.

Maybe I read it wrong, I thought it meant for patients/tourists who wished to use the private hospitals for lengthy treatment plans. What do you understand that sector to be ?

@Richard ******
it's for people that wish to invest in a number of limited targeted industries or executives getting paid a minimum salary of 200,000 baht. I don't quite understand your previous question could you elaborate?

Forgive my apparent stupidity but please be kind enough to explain to me the difference between these two criteria given 1/ affluent,medical and wellness tourism and 2/ Medical hub....

The same way some people thought last year it will be meant for digital nomads that freelance for overseas companies and like to spend their time on a pristine beach :)

Thank you Luke. How anyone can confuse this very expensive Smart Visa meant for investments with. Medical visits is a mystery to me.

It does not say "visitor". You either get paid THB 200K in that industry, and tax is paid accordingly on your salary, or you intend to start a company, get medical insurance and prove 600K in savings, and start the company within a year, or invest 20M baht.

I am interested because although I would qualify for a retirement visa, I have been warned it could jeopardise my UK based private medical insurance.

Hmm, I'd say unless there's some stipulation that you have to be in the UK x number of days a year or something like that, a visa or extension based on being over 50 here in thailand shouldn't mess it up.
