If one doesn’t have a business and is not employed, but earns money through stock and stock options trading, could one be eligible for the DTV?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Individuals who earn income from stock and stock options trading may be eligible for Thailand's Digital Nomad Visa (DTV), but they must provide substantial proof of their trading income, such as tax returns and brokerage statements. The Thai authorities require clarity on the legitimacy of income sources to ensure applicants can support themselves financially while living in Thailand. While there may be alternative routes like retirement visas, those engaging in stock trading must be prepared to present detailed documentation to substantiate their claims.

Funny, but I wonder how much it get paid to promote Muay Thai schools in every topic?

And as these schools are Thai schools is it legal to do this with a DTV?

Yes you can but it is going to get looked at closely.. Do you have a tax return showing you are doing this? Do you have an active traded portfolio history with income you can prove? Etc etc.

Lots of people are trying to game the edges, so just 'having some stocks' etc might not work, but a long term trader with proof, should be able to show that and qualify.

Then with good documents, an active trade and profit history, and a tax return showing a verified income you should be fine.

The DTV is a class which seems to be getting a lot of unqualified or barely qualified applicants, people with an 'idea' for an online business rather than history of one etc etc.. I think generally the MFA is smart enough to give genuine applicants the pass.

Thanks for the info and encouragement! I can easily show my trade and profit history on my brokerage statements.

Do you think DTV is better than a retirement visa? I qualify for that too.

No.. Not if you want to live here fully.. The banking issues, the 6 month visa runs.. Some offices only giving shorter term driving licenses, etc etc

Fine if your a younger backpacker or nomad bouncing through.. More of a hassle if you are trying to relocate and live.

Yes remote work is a bonus, but stock trading has always been left alone as the 'managing your investments' which is allowed. People will argue it isnt, but labour dept has said its ok in at least 2 cases I can remember.

yeah, you still have to show your share portfolio, income from it, explain the tax structure of your country in regards to it.

You're buying and selling stuff to make a profit and that profit is your income.

It also depends on how you invest as some people invest/trade under their own name rather than having a company/business/trust structure and they will want details about that.

for the remote work category you need to show client contracts. Or employment contract with statement from employer you are allowed remote work. Private trading wont work.

If you don’t want your attend courses, the remaining one is ongoing medical treatment

yep, you'll need to show evidence and explain that because they'll ask for company/business registration if it's not clear to them.

Australia it falls under the personal income/sole trader area to buy/sell shares under own name. So more the entrepeneur/free lancer but you're not providing services like most businesses do and don't need to produce invoices or receipts to customers. It still requires having to document it like a business for when you submit your taxes.

I'm not sure how investing under own name works for taxes/legal obligations in America.

I was asked for company and business registration which I also don't have and had to provide details about why.

The people processing the applications are making sure that you are able to earn an income generated from outside of Thailand to support yourself, that it's nothing dodgy, and don't have the same knowledge as you about it.
