I now have a multiple entry permit valid till 16 Oct 2020, based on an O-A visa. Any ideas if the dreaded insurance question will be asked if I take a trip out and back? Any recent experiences? Thx

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for health insurance during re-entry to Thailand on an O-A visa remains unclear, with experiences varying amongst expats. Some report no insurance checks, while others highlight inconsistent practices by immigration officials. Having health insurance is recommended, especially given the potential high costs of medical care in Thailand.
You shouldn't need insurance because a re-entry permit is based on an existing permission to stay and the insurance is only currently required for new permissions to stay (which includes new extensions).
Having said that, things are all over the place at the moment so they may ask you or they may not.
For what its worth, from UK, I am on my 2nd year of O-A, arrived 31st October 2019 at Suvarnabhum. I had my own Insurance, as always but not asked. However IO never said a thing, just smiled and stamped me to valid to date in 2020.
thx for sharing.... I'm kinda hesitant to take a short holiday out of Thailand if I need to get hit for a years insurance when I come back, especially when I already have insurance!
And because even the immigration officers don't know what's what, sometimes they don't ask, sometimes they do, sometimes they accept foreign insurance, sometimes they won't. There's no consistency yet.
To be really honest there are not a TON of people who have an O-A visa or an extension off an O/A, so it's gonna take a while to get some good feedback..
There is just NOT enough hard evidence either way to say what they really will be doing. IF you can use foreign insurance, if you have to use thai insurance etc.
There are reports it is asked, there are reports it is not asked. What will it be. Health insurance could be very convenience in case of emergency, Thai hospitals and for sure the luxury private hospitals are expensive and not for free.
