Australian citizen - I am applying for a DTV for me then will apply for visas for my husband and 2 children.

Only if you do it yourself or know the answer -

Can your spouse return to Australia a couple of times a year if you don't?

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian citizen applying for a DTV visa can have their spouse and children travel independently. Each family member, including the spouse, receives their own DTV visa, allowing them to enter and exit Australia multiple times without being tied to the primary DTV holder's travel plans.
