Hi all, I'm Thai but my partner is foreigner. He has stayed in Thailand since November 8, 2025 on free exemption. (Last day on passport shows Jan 8th, 2026). We're still preparing the documents for his spouse visa but we need more time.
So my question is..
If he wants to extend his free-visa..
1. Will the record on immigration system be reset after January 2026 (New calendar year) ?
2. If it does reset after we travel out of Thailand just for 1 day, Does that mean the officer might allow him to stay for another 60 days since the record is fresh now? or it will be counted as his 1st running visa?
Thank you in advance for your guidance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about extending a foreign partner's free-visa stay in Thailand, specifically if the immigration record resets after January 2026 and how a short trip out of the country might affect his eligibility for an extension. Responses clarify that there is no reset in the immigration records and provide suggestions for applying for extensions based on the couple's marriage certificate and current visa regulations.

He can apply for a 30day extension in country anytime now. And even if that isn't enough time and you have the marriage certificate he can apply for a 60-day extension later for visiting Thai family. All that without leaving the country.
If you are already married, and you have access to your marriage certificate, you should be able to extend with 60 days, not just the regular 30.
When it's all sorted he can head to Laos and apply for the Non-O there, if there's not enough time left on the extension to convert to the Non-O in Thailand, or if he does not have a bank account yet.
There is no "reset." He will still have the same record he had. Immigration looks for patterns of people trying to live in Thailand without a long-term visa.
