Hello everyone. My partner is British, he’s 73 years old. He’s entered Thailand on 15 November by Multiple tourist visa apply in Uk which will expire on 14 January. He would like to live in Thailand for 6 months.

Question!

Should he extend tourist visa on 10 January? So he can live 1 month and Then he fly to Singapore for 7 days on 14 February. He fly back to Thailand. So he can stay in Thailand 60 days?.

Or on 10 January he fly to Singapore and apply for non o visa then fly back to Thailand so he can stay 90 days?.

He booked the flight back to uk on 15 May 2026.

He got 2 strokes which is difficult for him to walk.

Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on visa options for their British partner who wishes to stay in Thailand for an extended period beyond their multiple tourist visa which expires on January 14, 2026. They inquire whether it's better to extend the tourist visa on January 10 or to fly to Singapore and apply for a Non-O visa. Responses suggest that the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) can allow for a stay of up to nine months with proper extensions and border runs. It's also advised to check the issuance details of the METV to clarify its validity and explore a potential retirement visa due to the partner's health condition.

When does his actual metv expire ? Don't confuse it with the 60 day stamp he received on arrival. 2 different things

You get stamped in for 60 days every time you enter during the 6 month period. If you arrived the day the visa expires you still get 60 days and each 60 day entry can be extended by 30 days at immigration. You can leave and come back as many times as you like. It is preferable to fly out and in but it can be done at a land border. You can exit and return the same day so no need to spend 7 days in Singapore unless you really want to. If you time the exit and entries carefully he can legally stay almost 9 months with an METV. If you plan to extend 30 days then go in to immigration and ask what is required.

in UK he can apply for retirement visa using his UK bank account. Enter Thailand and open thai bank account. Deposit 800,000tbt Apply for 12 month extension. With a reentry permit he can return before that 12 month expires. Apply for another 12 month extension.

Do a 30days extension before 14jan fly to sg before 14feb so let's say he come back to thailand on 21feb he will be stamp in until 20april and do another extension Or border bounce would cover him until 15may

Look at the visa approval printout you got from the Thai embassy overseas, it will have an issue date and an expiry date 6 months later. What you want to do is make an entry before the expiry date to get another 60 day stamp that also qualifies for a 30 day extension. He can't apply for another Visa while the METV is still valid.

when we applied in Uk, we going to apply for retirement visa but they need Thai bank account which he doesn’t have. So we applied for multiple tourist visa for 6 months. We think he can stay for 6 months but when we arrived at Suvannaphum airport. Then immigration. They said, he can stay for 60 days. Flight return to uk is 15 May. We don’t know which visa is suitable for him to stay to 15 May.

if he has a multiple entry tourist visa he will get stamped in for 60 days every time he enters Thailand while the visa remains valid. Each entry can also be extended by 30 days at your local immigration office. Basically there are 2 dates to be aware of, the one he is stamped in for and the expiry date of the visa itself

A Thai bank account is only required when applying in Thailand and for extensions. He should have got his Non-O from the UK before travelling.

Buy the 6 month month METV you can get 9 months out of it with a strategic border bounce in the last few days

60 day stamp, extend for 30 days at ฿1,900 at your local immigration office

Border bounce, microcation minication vacation.

Return 60 day stamp extend for 30 days at ฿1,900 at your local immigration office

Last few days do a border Bounce

Get stamped in for 60 days extend for 30 days for ฿1,900 at your local immigration office

There is no limit on the amount of METV Visas you can buy back to back

These do not count against your 2 border bounces per year

Good luck
