I will be in Bangkok today arriving at Central Pinklao bus station and leaving BKK to Narita Japan airport. I would like to get some US currency preferably 100 dollar notes from ATM or BKK super rich or the like using a credit card. Is this possible and any suggestions about where is appreciated. I looked at this site and googled many other sites but did not get concrete information so posting here. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion primarily revolves around the possibility of withdrawing US dollars from ATMs in Bangkok and options for currency exchange before traveling to Japan. It clarifies that while it's generally not possible to withdraw US dollars from Thailand ATMs, travelers can exchange Thai baht for US dollars at currency exchange booths like Super Rich. It's also suggested that using a credit card or bank card to withdraw Japanese yen directly in Japan could be a more efficient option.

Are you saying that you are returning to your home country (USA) and want to exchange your Thai currency for the currency of your home country? Or you are going to visit Japan and want to exchange your Thai currency for Japanese yen?

You should be able to buy good quality $100 bills at the larger money changers.

Why don't you simply use your card in Japan to withdraw Yen from the ATM once you land in Japan instead of losing so much in changing currencies 3 times.

I thought about that and that is what I am going to do. I have some US currency now anyway. I’ll try my bank card in Bangkok and credit card in Bangkok. I just haven’t used them in so long not sure if they require pin number etc so want to make sure they work before hitting atm in Japan.

Good point. I have some baht also now so will exchange baht and/or dollars to yen at BKK

In that case, buy Yen in Bangkok instead of USD and save one cycle of exchanging.

There are a few ATMs at BKK airport airside that will dispense USD and EUR but I wouldn’t rely on that.

Get baht from a regular Thai ATM and then go to super rich and buy USD with your baht

I take it places like super rich won’t put charge on credit card for cash but only exchange currencies. IE baht for dollars?

Michael, this is not true. I do it every year at the T. T. EXCHANGE boots in Chonburi. He should better call Super-Rich, if they have enough US-Dollar s.

You're not going to get US dollars from any ATM in Thailand.

Also using your credit card to get cash, regardless of where, is going to impose huge cash advance fees.

Money changers

At airport

The ones on the left side aisle on

Airport Train station

Is where I go

But actually even exchange places on

Departure concourse actually give reasonable rates for

Baht to dollars

Typically premium condition bills

probably from super rich. They have the cost to sell and to purchase USD so I assume they sell it as well. But they don't take credit cards.
